Hello all.
I have a problem with sound. And as I have had this problem from day one, I have Sonar 8 producer (64 bit version) and although when I import an audio file and can see the waveform, I hear nothing. The same happens when I try to record midi from my keyboard. I see the signal is getting  through, it even records as I can see these actions happening on screen, but no matter what I do I cant hear a peep. I have asio4all drivers installed and running, and have checked midi in and midi out in the ‘midi. Options  tile.
I hear everything else on my puter., i.e. songs. Audio tracks, warning beeps. Start-up tones etc. I still have Mixcraft 6 recording studio on my puter and that works just fine. But I still hear sod all on sonar 8. I have even tried re-installing sonar using the 32 bit option. Still nothing.
I have looked at all the tutorials, many forum threads and also various YouTube vids so I am now beginning to wonder if my puter set up (which can be seen below) and Sonar 8 producer are incompatible.
In other words. I am running around in circles, getting nowhere apart from disillusionville.
Can anyone help please??
Thanks

Some more info/clarification needed:
-By audio tracks/songs that you can hear, do you mean ones recorded by you in SONAR or listening to music in WMP?

If you can record normally, some of the following is unnecessary/obvious, but anyway...:

-What have you selected as the record/playback timing master in" Options"
-Have you selected the ASIO4ALL as the I/O drivers?
-What format is the imported audio and what is its track output?
-You say you see the waveform, but hear nothing, ok, but does the level meter move when you play it back?
- What soft synth have you tried and how are you inserting it?

(You have a nice set of gear. I strongly recommend getting a decent audio interface. They're not expensive.)

Hi Rantaaho.
 Thanks for responding.

I am new to sonar so I haven’t recorded anything yet, but I imported a .wav file. Which played no prob in WMP and also played ok when i tried this action with Mixcraft6. but remains silent  when I hit the play button in sonar8.

When I say I recorded I meant that I played a few notes on my midi keyboard and although I couldn’t hear anything as I played. I could see notes appear and stay and save on the track view. Apologies for being vague.

The record timing master in ‘Options’ is set to   ‘ASIO4ALL v2 Audio Front Mic Input 1’
Playback Timing  Master is set to  ‘ASIO4ALL v2 HD Audio output 1’

ASIO4ALL v2 Audio Front is selected once in the ‘Input’ Drivers Tab
ASIO4ALL v2 HD Audio out is selected 3 times in the ‘Output’ Drivers Tab

The format of the imported audio is .wav

The level meter moves as it should

As for which soft synth I used, it was before I re-installed Sonar8 and I honestly don’t remember which, I just picked one at random to see what would unfold. Sorry bout that.

I have also disconnected the StudioMix  mixing desk prio to re-installation whilst this problem persists if only to cut down the variables and may re-connect it when this  audio problem is sorted.

Also  my keyboard is connected directly into the puter soundcard. Which, as I say, seems to work fine with the Mixcraft6 programme. Hence my frustration lol

If it helps I could provide screenshots of any settings if needed.

Thanks

You should get an audio interface besides the Realtek. Get one that has native ASIO drivers and ditch ASIO4ALL.

Hello Daveny5
Ok I will try that. Do I need to get a particular make and model of interface or will any with pre-installed asio do?
Thanks

Hi All.
Well. I have acquired an 'M-Box 2 Mini' interface with a copy of Pro-Tools LE which presumably has all the drivers I need.
No way do I want Pro-tools on my puter but I'm hopeing I can use the MBox 2 Mini with Sonar 8 and the StudioMix Mixing Desk.
Is this possible? and if so. looking at the limited inputs/outputs of the MBox unit, what is the best way to connect all this stuff correctly? Please? Pretty Please??
(Please bare-in-mind that I am a complete pre-noob noob with Sonar8 and all the hardware that goes with it. so please be gentle with me)

I-thank-you.
(Bows lowly then leaves the stage)

Follow the instructions that came with the M-Box 2 Mini. In Sonar, go to the Help Menu-Contents and read the Getting Started section.

I would go to MAudios site for the current driver

If it dont show it there you will need to go to AVIDs site for it.

Are all your routing set right on Tracks, Busses, Master and Main outs?

ie...

Tracks I/O are output to Buss
Buss I/O are output to Master
Master I/O is output to Main
Main I.O is output to your sound card?
