Hi I am using Sonar X2 Producer. I have a TC Helicon Voicelive touch which is connected via USB it is listed in X2 as a Midi device. When I go to insert an external effect to a track or bus THE TC Helicon is not available in the Left and Right drop down menu, all that is listed is my Tascam US-1800 Interface.

Could anyone help please thanks

Does the TC have a sound driver to install. It was my understanding the usb for the TC is only for editing the patches.

Hi Thanks Yes it does have a driver installed, and is recognised in Sonar as a MIDI device. Below taken from the User Manual

I dont want to do all that at the moment just use as an external effect.

6 USB: INSERT
Configure an aux send in your DAW to send the vocal track via USB to
VoiceLive Touch’s left input and the guitar track to the right.
To record a 100% wet track that will be mixed with the dry lead vocal
track, set the LEAD MUTE parameter to ON in the Advanced Setup
menu. If a guitar track is used to control harmony, the GUITAR MUTE
parameter in the same menu should also be set to ON.
To record an output track that will replace the original vocal track such
as when you use HardTune or Transducer presets, ensure that LEAD
MUTE is set OFF.
You can monitor through VoiceLive’s headphone or main outputs as you
record but when playing back using VoiceLive Touch as the output audio
device, set 6 USB: INSERT to USB: STEREO.

If you have a USB option, that's great.  I use an external TC Helicon VoiceWorks Plus by running digitial IN/OUT from my interface (V-Studio).  I have a thread out here somewhere with directions—but USB is probably better.  I just don't have that option on the VoiceWorks.

My understanding of external effects is that they are for AUDIO effects only (not midi effects). This is why your external routing options appear to be limited to your audio input/output.

Thank you for your answers. Surely there must be a way to get an external effect onto a track. Please forgive me but routing baffles me a bit.

I really want to get som of the TC Helicon effects into my tracks.

Let's say you have a dry stereo guitar track that you want to add a TC flanger to. Route the guitar tracks OUTputs to a pair of stereo outputs on your soundcard. Run two cables (for left and right) from the sound card OUT to the TC Inputs. Then run two more cables from the TC OUTs to two INs on your soundcard. Configure Sonar to record their input on a new stereo track. Record the part by having Sonar play the guitar "into" the TC, while sonar records the TC OUT on the new track. That is how you use external audio effects. Hope this helps, Ed

Thanks I see what you mean. I have 4 outs on my tascam US-1800 but The Voicelive touch isnt blessed with inputs only 1 for the mic guitar and an aux in for audio, it has outputs ok but that wont help much.

Thanks to all the guys who have took the time to help me.

I have took all on board and done some further research The issue is with with drivers, the Voicelive touch only uses WDM drivers which dont work very well at all. I have installed asio4all and this is better I will do some testing tomorrow but for tonight I can now create sends to the TC device so lets see what happens

Thanks again guys
