It was me that picked up Wookiee's post at Sonarmods and posted the link over here. If it hadn't been me, no doubt somebody else would have done it.

I was in two minds whether to do it or not, but I had absolutely no reason to doubt Wookiee's post. So I considered it a bit more than hearsay or unsubstantiated rumour.

As mudgel says, it's not something that Noel is allowed to say publicly until a formal announcement is made, so perhaps this was a way of leaking a bit of information to help allay one of the users base's biggest fears - authorization.

Wookiee hasn't yet felt the need to take down his post at Sonarmods.

For the record, this has been confirmed again as being part of the Escrow requirements of any software company in the case of end of business.

I also saw Wookiee’s post and as I was over here looking for other info I came across wibbles’ post and thought it ideal to link right through all the links back to Wookiee’s post.
You try to help people and they still want to complain.

Look, your efforts ARE appreciated I think. At least by me.

Can you REALLY blame people for being:
  • Angry
  • Skeptical
  • Worried
  • Distrustful
since the rug just got pulled out from under them out of the clear blue sky on Thanksgiving week no less?  Of course, Cakewalk employees have things worse in the real life sweepstakes, and I doubt anyone would realistically deny that.

But still, given the circumstances, the complete lack of reassurances from Gibson, a general lack of knowledge in the buyer's actual rights in this matter and the somewhat cryptic nature of the sticky in question (I for one had no idea what or where you were referring to at all) I think maybe you could quit complaining over a lack of appreciation and cut folks some slack, don't you?

Newsflash -- this isn't easy for anyone involved.  Sorry if this post seems somewhat harsh, but hey this chaos and attitude fest can be laid DIRECTLY at the feet of Gibson Inc, who have handled this (so far) about as poorly as it could have been.  They make the government look efficient by comparison. Maybe THAT is something we could all agree on.

Peace (from a retired non-com),
Steve

I think the sticky's are to stop the widespread panic and give Cakewalk users a sense of security (like that's possible). But at this point the sticky's are all we have as far as communication to what is going on.

With all that being said, unless it comes from a Cakewalk employee/staff, It is not going to give anyone the serenity they need. At this point, every single user here feels scorn, hurt or behooved. And I don't blame them. You have every right to feel that way.

We have people relaying messages that should be coming from cakewalk.
But just try to understand, those users are doing this in the best interest of the customers.
They are only trying to help. Any news is good news at this point.

Neither do I, and I didn't mean for it to come across that way :)

But thank you anyway for at least TRYING to quell people's concerns a bit.  It's a decent thing to do.

I'm just saying that Gibson has left us to figure this out on our own for the most part and while Cakewalk employees are out of work -- and that's terrible -- more than a few people here are having their livelihoods threatened as well which tends to make anyone nervous.  Your good deed should not be punished, but I think any anger being felt here by anyone about darn near anything related to this situation can be attributed to Gibson and their shoddy, half-assed and insensitive business practices.  It's one thing to shut down a subsidiary and sunset a product, it's quite another do that in this fashion with cloak and dagger messages followed by radio silence.  THAT is what pisses me off personally -- because I know darn good and well someone at Gibson in a position of authority knew this was at hand, and they could have had policies and procedures all ready to be posted WITH the announcement as opposed to be radio silent and getting reassurances third hand via some other source as it is now.

Does that make a little more sense?

I'm not always as eloquent as I could be and i tend to fall back on my lifetime serving the armed forces (I still contract with the Army) when things get fuzzy around the edges like this so hopefully, you'll forgive that at this point.

Agreed 100%. It's hear-say and with a locked thread we can't even say that.
