If you care to check the update it will take you to a Facebook page where Noel himself confirms the information. That is not hearsay.
The reason the thread is locked is simply that make it easier to update. No one has taken away anyone’s ability to discuss, debate, disparage, deny any of the information contained in it.

The claim that we will get a magic unlock file is meaningless regardless of who it comes from until we actually have that magic file. I don't believe that Noel is making up what he is saying or that he doesn't have the best intentions in mind. The problem is that it rarely works out that cleanly in real life. Escrow introduces a ton of complications about what the thing held in escrow actually is, the quality of it, the trigger conditions for release, how airtight those conditions are, the legal recourse if it is not released, etc.. All it takes is one Gibson exec get wind of it and say no and then what happens? I'm not saying there is no chance we will get the unlock file -- just that there are a pile of complications that could easily get in the way of that. It's not anything that any of us should be banking on at this point.

Important info regarding Sonar Activation

It is nothing more than here-say and means nothing and is misleading.

Agreed 100%. It's hear-say and with a locked thread we can't even say that.

What’s this thread full of it’s its not people debating the voracity of the thread. And clearly you’ve added your stamp without reading the updated sticky. Which is not hearsay.

If Noel said it here in the official forum somewhere then I'd be more confident.
I don't actually know for sure who owns that FaceBook account.

  • information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate; rumor.

    "adequately substantiate"

is the key phrase ... in my opinion.

Well go and check it out. People have linked to it, made copies of the text and pasted it here. To be honest you’d be no more sure if another admin used Noel’s account and posted it the info here using his name. At some point things have to be taken at face value and I have no reason to think that the Noel on the Facebook pages or the one pm’d by Wookiee are imposters.

    Yes. That's correct.
When I have an official fix then I'll be sure. :-)

I’ll be glad once this is all over.

It’s sure not productive except giving people the opportunity to vent. But all the talk doesn’t get anywhere nor does it allay any of the anxieties.

I too wish for a formal response but until then I’ll take any glimmer of news that tells me that I’ll have a working program with no activation problems.

The rest is all speculation and hot air.

It just needs to be reworded.  It's not a fact.  It's a "maybe".  Some will accept it as fact because the word "definitely" is used, but the reality is, Gibson can do what it wants to do -- and giving out a permanent activation code may not be part of their plans.

Those users accepting it as fact could understandably make no "Plan B" for themselves. What happens to those users, say, six months from now if Noel is told he can't do what he promised, and we won't have access to our products?

People need to know where they stand.  Right now, there's nothing definite about it.

Noel’s use of the term normal escrow implies there is some legal underpinning to what must be done under these circumstances. Something that not even Gibson can sidestep. I also infer this from the fact that a small team is left at Cakewalk. Add to this, there have been numerous reports of folks on the pay to own plan whose Sonar about page now says owned instead of an expiry date.

Whether I’m right or not we’ll see but I’m sure there’s Bakers working at things behind the scenes and when they have something to tell us and they’re allowed to comment here, they will.

I don’t understand why people want to be negative. Too many people getting worked up over what they haven’t got a clue about.
