I was glad to hear that UAD was now supporting x64.  But, when I wnet to download the new drivers, I saw that they only worked on a UAD2 card, NOT on my UAD1.  So, am I obsolete and never to get 64 bit compatability?  Is the card unable to support 64 bit?

Send 'em a bug report!!!
I did, actually. They haven’t answered yet, but maybe after they’ve got their morning coffees...

I think the decision to not support Sonar with 6.3.2 was very inconsiderate. It appears someone knew that x64 was near and they made a call to leave Sonar users hanging for a few months.

I also blame Cakewalk to some extent as it indicates a less than adequate relationship they have with Universal Audio. If the two companies were closer then there would be some communication and possibly partnering, at the very least communication to the user base, to resolve the issue.

They didn't decide not to support Sonar with 6.3.2. They screwed up, but they fixed it less than 30 days later with 6.4.

However, not as bad a screwup as the ADAT EPROM update that didn't stop the tape after it hit the end of the reel after rewinding Humans are involved. Mistakes are made whenever humans are involved.

Also, I know for a fact that UA and Cakewalk do communicate. Having a less than 30 day time frame is really pretty good for finding a problem, isolating it, fixing it, QCing it, and releasing a revision.

Would it have been better if 6.3.2 had been released without problems? Of course. Same for Vista, OS X, Core Audio aggregation on the Mac...

I give more credit to UA for knowing that the ultimate fix was coming in 30 days and somewhat communicating it.  There are issues with the Prochannel and honestly, I don't have a clue how soon a fix is coming for that.  How long has that been?

Yup...the UAD1 platform is now moribund (dead, left behind, a parrot that is no more).  You can still run older software versions (at least three or four iterations back or so) on them but they quit supporting UAD1 quite a while ago.  I still use to UAD1 cards in my commercial studio box as it's still 32 bit running Sonar 8.5.3.  But my music production computer is all UAD2 and 64bit (now).  Sorry Maury, ol pal.

We wasn't born yesterday, you know!   I have long experience about this so I know exactly how companies think and work to earn money.
A more then likely UAD support answer in the future: We are sorry your SONAR platform doesn't support VST3 yet. We are sorry but you need VST3 for UAD function correctly. Please contact support at Cakewalk. They doens't qualifying to support UAD platform yet.
I think a FAR more likely support answer will be to Cubase users, and will say: We are sorry, but as of now we do not produce plug-ins for the VST3 format. Until it is more widely adopted, most of our sales are to people using VST2, AU, and RTAS versions. Rest assured that we have qualified all our VST2 plug-ins for flawless operation with Cubase and they function 100% to the VST spec while working within Cubase. We are constantly monitoring the state of the market and when VST3 is supported by more hosts, then we will seriously consider transitioning over to the VST3 format. At the moment, it makes no economic sense for us to do so, as Cubase represents a significant portion of our sales, but not significant enough to abandon all hosts currently running VST2. Thank you for understanding.

My money is with Craig on this... I seriously doubt VST3 only support will come along any time soon.  Any plugins that I have seen that do support VST3 have versions for both and that's not going to change until there is A LOT more support for VST3 among the various hosts.

I know Freddie says he's been at this for a long time, but I was reading Craig's articles in industry magazines fairly early in my playing days and I know how long I've been at this.  He's not just some guy posting on an Internet forum.  He knows his stuff and has for a long time.

I got a reply from UA last night regarding the 'rumour' that Sonar support has been dropped.

Of course, it hasn't. UA has taken the (I'm guessing economical) stance that they will fully test on a few hosts. They went on to say that their plugs should work in any DAW that supports the VST protocol.

And, once again, their service staff were nothing but pleasant and cheery. I love those guys.

I really hope you are right and I'm wrong on this.

There have been many times I've made predictions and hoped I would be wrong . But this time, I hope I'm right too!

BTW - installed the 64-bit plugs last night for my Quad card. They all worked fine, and the installation was painless.
