  • Pitch wheel info in PRV - read this if you edit MIDI controller data

Here is a strange one. I have a MIDI track with pitchbend (wheel) information on it. If I go into the Piano Roll View, and open up the controller lanes at the bottom, I can see my pitch bend info - BUT only the parts above 0! I mean pitch bend rises.

The parts below 0, are there in the event list, and I can also see them on the actual clip itself - but in the controller lane, where I'd want to edit them - there is nothing below the zero line.

Would someone mind verifying whether they see this?

Thanks.
PS - I can supply sceen shots, but I think it's pretty clear what I'm seeing (albeit pretty weird)

I tried it and it shows me 0 in the middle, 8192 at the top and -8192 at the bottom and it goes both above and below. Perhaps you don't have the pane maximized?

Well, if you can't see it, I certanly can't.

Seriously, I've never seen this. Could be a graphic glitch.

Try cascading or minimising the main window and then maximizing it.

Try saving the project, then close and reopen Sonar.

See if it happens on another project.

Sorry, I never got an email so didn't know there were replies here. Dave are you saying you can see the pitch bend info below 0?

page 696 in the reference manual looks like you can only see the flags for the negative values, and I can't get flags to appear. I've clicked the option to show flags but it doesn't seem to do anything - maybe this is my problem.

I can see all the correct pitch bend info tin track view, but I'd rather work in PRV.

If you guys can definitely see this, then it must be a graphics issue. soens - it happens on all projects, and positive values are fine (weird).

Can I verify that you see the actual controller lines for the negative pitch wheel values in PRV? Or are you just seeing the flags? Meanwhile I'll see if I can figure out how to turn on the flags.

I'm not at the music PC now - but there is a menu choice in PRV to turn on the flags - it just doesn't do anything. I can see the flags in track view though (looking at "Note" rather than "Clip")

Well, I found the solution! You can only see negative pitch wheel values when handles are enabled - but enabling and disabling controller data handles is not as easy as just using the menu option!

Check out this thread from Sept 2011
http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?&m=2389905&mpage=2

On page 2, fastbikerboy discovers what you have to do to enable the handles

"If I undock the PRV and disable floating the "controller handles" view state option then works perfectly and instantly as it should. As soon as I enable floating the Controller Handles view state is locked to whatever it is set at when floating is enabled. "

This works! And this is what I have to do to edit pitchwheel (negative values) data in the PRV. I don't like to use the handles normally - but this is a workaround.

So the lesson is
- that I'm not going nuts
- and this is a bug that has been around for quite a while now, since at least SONAR X1 (probably as long as there has been a multidock)
