I see no reason not to have it. You get a bunch of free sounds and you are also able to purchase many excellent NI libraries in the future should you be in the market for such things.

Well it might be something nice to play with and considering how much people go on about Kontakt I guess it's worth poking around at.

Cheers, guys. Helpful as always.

I installed it yesterday, and hoping the paid Traktor will work.  But for some reason the Guitar Rig 5 dll isn't being picked up by X2.  GR5 is not really 'free' - the UI is but any presets default to a 30 minute demo.  Player seems to have a small amount of sample content which might be handy.

When you sign the EULA you may need to speak German.  I toggled between English/German but it made no difference.

Prost!

Wow, word gets around quick here! LOL! There is a small free library with the player. it comes as a separate download. The upright and the Rhodes gets a good bit of use by me.

BTW, the Rhodes with the vibrato turned on really nails that Max Middleton Rhodes on Jeff Beck's Blow By Blow album. That is one of my favorite Rhodes sound of all time.

Although I am more comfortable with the features on some of the other players, Kontakt is the gold standard for plug-in samplers.

ABSOLUTELY agree with you on that Rhodes sound.  And thanks for reminding me I wanted to put together a couple of covers of Beck tunes. :)

Anyone considering Kontakt 5, if they can possibly swing it for the full version, won't be disappointed.  As others have said it's the gold standard and since I've had it I've been completely satisfied.

Despite the awesomeness and scope of Kontakt, I still find myself craving something into which I can quickly drag and auto keymap audio clips. Something like the free version of Structure which comes with Pro Tools. That thing is awesome for beat chopping. You just take your drum loop, chop it into eight pieces, drag them into Structure, and it automatically maps them to consecutive notes on the keyboard. I haven't found anything comparable in a free VST version, although to be fair I haven't really looked hard.
