I have been using the Echo Layla3G for a while now. Very nice. I bought the Roland OCta capture for my laptop, but I would like to try it on my desktop daw so I can A\B the mic pres and all.

Can I just switch between the 2 in X2a? Not in mid stream of course. For a home studio like mine I would like to find which of my options has the best Mic pres for my orig (one of first 100 many moons ago) Studio Projects C1.

I have the Mackie vlz3, but I have to believe the mic pres would be the worst of my three options.

Don't want to mess things up here-I guess I could jsut disable\enable in device manager if I had to.

OR does someone have an informed opinion about the Echo vs Octa mic pres :-)

Thanks

You should be able to, strat.  Just like your rel-tek or whatever can co-exist.  If you are using ASIO, you can only have one driver at a time, of course.  But you'll never know until you try.

Thanks @-I'll give it a shot. Even though I have a feeling the Roland is the better of the 2 as far as pres.

In ASIO mode you can only use one soundcard at a time. Try WDM mode for your experiment.

Why not record tracks using each soundcard then A/B the tracks ?

Switching soundcards is easy enough with the preferences page. I have three.

I use two audio interfaces. Not picked up to Sonar at the same time, but I can have them both plugged in. It's just a quick toggle in preferences to switch from one to the other.

Strat, if the roland preamps are pretty much the same as in the VS100/700, they are pretty good.  I tested them out against an SSL board and API and it held its own.  Not as good, but you didn't need a $100,000 board to get there, either.
