Hi, I'm trying to get Presonus Audiobox VSL to work in Sonar. I have Sonar 8.5 and can only record 16 bit. It was recently discovered (after I purchased the Audiobox!) that it takes X1d or higher to make the 1818VSL work with Sonar. I DL the X2 Trial but it still won't record above 16bit. My machine is Win7, Intel i7 2600k cpu, 16GB 1600 RAM and Intel DP67BG mobo. I updated all drivers (USB, Video card, Mgmt Engine, and Chipset Device Software) and updated the BIOS to the latest version. I also optimized it from the Blackviper web site. A tech at Sweatwater spent a great deal of time with me checking my W7 and BIOS settings. Latency Monitor says I have no problems. I only have 4 USB devices connected on this machine. -- Mouse and Keyboard (USB 3.0) -- Audiobox and midiman 2x2 (USB 2). I need all 4. I've tried various USB 2.0 ports but same results. X2 Trial: Audiobox (Asio) drivers 1.21 beta Sonar X2 Preferences-Audio menu shows 32 bit depth, 44100 Sampling rate. W7 reports a recorded and saved file -> Bit rate = 1411kbps Sonar (Import Audio) reports the same files attributes -> 44100Hz, 16 Bits PCM ASIO4All wrapper on same Audiobox 1.21 beta drivers Sonar X2 Preferences-Audio menu shows 24 bit depth, 44100 Sampling rate. Newly recorded file shows all same attributes as above. I have yet to record anything at above 16 bit with the Audiobox. The Presonus forums couldn't help me so I was hoping a Sonar expert might have a solution. Thanks

Something is "wrong" somewhere... I've been using an 1818VSL on a Win7 machine for a number of months now and I can run 8.5.3/X1dExpanded/X2a with no difficulties. Who told you that you had to have X1d or higher to use the 1818?

First thing I'd do is get rid of the ASIO4all as it's always caused trouble for me and is un-necessary. Have you disabled your onboard audio driver? It often causes conflicts of this sort...

It could be that you have the on board audio selected along with the 1818. Deselect the on board audio device and that should let you go to 24 bits.

I use VSL1818 as well. Only problem I had was the usb3 glitch in W7 (see P forum). I use the 1.2 driver. Worked in vista x1 32 bit, w7 x2/x2a 64 bit. Tried this? http://support.presonus.c...driver-update-solution

I use a 44VSL, which uses the same driver and architecture as the bigger 1818VSL and I can record at 24/96 in X1d.

Dan

Hey, thanks for all the responses! "Who told you that you had to have X1d or higher to use the 1818? " --- Presonus forum mod and from a couple of threads on the Presonus forum, plus a Sweatwater tech. "get rid of the ASIO4all" --- The only reason I tried it is to be complete and if I didn't, someone would recommend it anyway. 1818VSL has it's own ASIO drivers in their latest 1.21 beta, So I really should have no reason to use it. "Tried this? http://support.presonus.c...driver-update-solution" --- Yes, Thanks Acron, I've done this about twenty times now (Every time I try a new driver config). It probably "works" but I still can't record @24bit. "Have you disabled your onboard audio driver?" "could be that you have the on board audio selected" --- The first thing I did was uninstall the Realtech Onboard audio. HOWEVER, I just remembered that nVidia installs it's own audio codecs. When I get home I'll try disabling those and recording again. So thanks John and Keni, for the heads up. I'll report back the results tomorrow. BTW I can't get the forum 'Preview' to work.

Or formatting.

Formatting ? Wow, thats really last resort !!!

You've probably done this, but, you'll need to disable the on-board sound in the BIOS as well as deleting all its drivers and associated software.

Also, uninstall the Presonus drivers, run Ccleaner (the Registry tab)  to get rid of any orphanned registry strings.

Re-boot and then fresh install your Presonus drivers.

Cheers and good luck,
Jerry

Sorry joakes, I wasn't clear. I meant I can't format or preview my replies on this forum. That's why my entries are a big pile of unformatted words.

I use Revo Unintall Pro on every new driver re-install. I have removed every other audio device on my computer. The onboard realtech audio is also disabled in BIOS as well as all software uninstalled. Same results. W7 shows todays recording as 4100, bit rate 705kbps. X2 audio menu reads 32 bit rate but is greyed out.
