@chitwilbur - I may or may not have sent you a PM - I got a server error message, but I had the keep a copy in the sent folder and it thinks it got sent.

Please post here if you did not receive the PM, and I will go with plan B.

Reloading Default settings for Aud.ini: BitsPerSample=32 FileBitDepth=16 RenderBitDepth=32 I manually change it to: BitsPerSample=24 FileBitDepth=24 RenderBitDepth=32 Opening and closing X2 Trial leaves me with BitsPerSample=32 FileBitDepth=24 RenderBitDepth=32 Clicking on the 'Asio Panel' button does nothing?!

Some interfaces respond to the ASIO Control Panel button in Sonar, and some do not.  The Presonus one does not - you have to use the application that sits in the system tray for the 1818VSL.  This is a quirk of Presonus, not of Sonar.

Do you have the Presonus plugged into a USB 2.0 or a USB 3.0 port?

I had lots of early trouble when I had mine plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

Hi Bob - did you mean USB 3 port here?
I am using USB 2 and my own 1818 is working well here on an older quad. Presonus had early difficulties with USB 3 from what I read but I think they worked on that with the newer drivers - considering my options for a system upgrade and the option to use USB 3 is a big consideration.

OOPS! Yes, I meant USB 3.

Stupid fingers! DOH!

I have setup other Audiobox systems for clients and I have it working on XP/Vista/Win7 with Sonar 8.5.3/X1dExpanded and X2a...

There must be some other problem going on as it's working everywhere I've installed it...

@keni. Then you used the 1.0 drivers. 1.0 drivers work with Sonar 8.5.3. If your clients had no crackles & pops then they (you) were lucky and all is fine. Otherwise, Presonus 1.2 and 1.21 beta drivers are not compatible with Sonar 8.53. That's my whole point. Presonus changed their compatibility specifications AFTER they shipped the product.

I had a phone conversation with Bob Bone.
Great guy. Very helpful and knowledgeable.
He did realize, however that a previous post of his in this thread contained an error.
He actually didn't get his 1818VSL up and running with anything above the 1.0 drivers.

I'm running just fine with driver 1.57

...and I have a client running the same with a 22VSL without any problem...

Sorry, I don't know of a 1.57 driver and I know nothing about the 22VSL.
Again, I'm claiming 2 separate problems.
1.) 1818VSL pops and crackles on SOME systems. The 1.2 and 1.21 drivers seems to have fixed this popping problem for most users, but not all. This is documented on the Presonus forum and admitted to by the company. One of the responses made to me on my thread over there was to "hang in there" because yet another new driver is coming out to fix this.
2.)These newer drivers have killed Sonar 8.5.3 compatibility (and probably other older versions of Sonar).
So, I will never find out if the newer drivers would have fixed the popping on my machine because the newer drivers are no longer compatible with my version of Sonar.
So far I haven't been able to verify with anyone on either forum that they can make 1818VSL work with 1.2 or 1.21 drivers with Sonar 8.5.3, but several people do share my experience that it won't work. C'mon, this should be very easy to prove one way or another. If someone will just prove me wrong with their firsthand experience with this EXACT same situation (1.57, 22VSL??), I will be very happy because I can stop beating my head against the wall like I am doing right now.

I just checked and my vsl app shows the same thing as Keni's. in fact it says the driver is 1.57.5385. I realize that on the Presonus site only 1.1, 1.2 and the beta (1.21) are listed -  I know I installed either 1.2 or 1.21 but don't recall which and quite frankly don't care because it is working well here with X2 64 bit. I can't test 8.5.3 any more because I no longer have it on my DAW.
Whatever.
Quite frankly your tone above is disappointing given that people have been trying to help you out. I understand your frustration but its not anyone's fault here.
