The difference of how it sounds in the video between MIX 1 and MIX 2 is that same kind of warm difference I hear on single tracks VS before...

Here you can hear the difference on the new plugin VS the old one. Gswitz made this video to show the different!

He says in the video: "The settings on the compressor I'm not sure are identical."

What can I say... I wouldn't say it sounds different if did not. It sounds warmer..even more musical.
I can only say it's the best 19.99€ I have spent this year.

Old mix vs. New mix.

Maybe someone could install 64bit new and compare to 32bit old? and publish a set of bind A/B 24/44.1 WAV files for comparrison.

Nah!!! Nevermind.

From Cakewalk's point of view though, it just seems like the CA-2A is the same kind of release as the RE-2A, which was the Propellerhead rack version of the PC-2A. There were no claims that this version sounded different.

There is another clue here in this KVRaudio post about the CA-2A release by our own Seth:

http://www.kvraudio.com/f...iewtopic.php?p=5230566

Note his response to someone who asked if there is a CA-2A demo available:

Unfortunately, we don't have a demo for it right now. You can, however, try the Reason Rack Extension version for free if you have Reason. The RE version uses the same modeling and under the hood bits as the CA2A and PC2A.

So I guess that's as close as we have to an official answer right now.

Just sharing this for those who don't know: the Sonitus Compressor has a preset called something like DBX160 (which BTW is totally my favorite go-to preset for the Sonitus compressor). (Not the same thing as a specific software emulation product, but it is pretty darn close and works really well.) Just thought I'd share for those who haven't played around with it yet. Best, ed

Thanks for the heads up! Usually I never use the Sonitus FX but it's time to rediscover them. Sounds pretty good!

My guess is that the placebo effect is in force here.

There are some obvious tests that can be done to compare the two (phase invert to see if they null, check the frequency response, check the harmonic distortion) that have just not happened. I'll bet that if that were to happen, you'd find the two versions are identical. As has been pointed out, Cakewalk would advertise it otherwise. Also, there's no "rules" around software versioning that should lead anyone to assume they updated the sound engine. There's lots of plugins I can think of that have gone from one version to another without rewriting the algorithm.

It is always fun to guess if Cake has changed things.  When SONAR Expanded came out many swore it was less glitchy on their systems tho Cake made no claim of such improvements.  Many people that were having problems complained that Cake wanted them to "upgrade" to get rid of the bugs.  Cake swore that nothing they baked should have made a difference - it was mostly Cake PC.  But obviously something was "better" in expanded, since so many people were having less problems.

So, if you are Cakewalk and you "improve" an already existing product and it could possibly work/sound better (or not), do you want the grief on these boards and out in the aether that you are charging for bug fixes?  Cake hasn't claimed that the CA sounds better than the straight PC module.  But maybe in making it a VST they did a little internal work, too.  Or maybe it just sounds better for some unkown reason.  But not enough to justifying a real claim to sound since 4 out of 5 musical dentists can't recommend it.  By not claiming better sound they don't get the grief of announcing said improvement but still get the benefit of some claiming it sounds better.  Win/win.

Anyway, I like the new (old?) VST faceplate.  Sounds better to me.

It's version 2 - with added features, but isn't the algorithms the same? So if I don't need Sidechaining or the VST version, this is not really necessary, roight?

Edit to add - Didn't see your post before replying Sharke! Good catch. I think I'll pass and buy me a six pack instead. I have no issues with PC2A

Yes, the Sonitus are pretty good, even if they are not new and hype (but 64 bits for a while !).
I often use the Delay, the Compressor, and also the Reverb (not so bad, for certain purposes).

And they have been for me very useful for learning, because including all the parameters.
