I realize you guys are all tuckered out from the barrage of scantily clad NAMM booth models and such but, when you have time...could you please make a Studio Instrument for Acoustic bass, not simply the frettless in S1-Bass Guitar.

There really is no usable stand up bass in Dimension Pro and the controls for it are mainly synth oriented. The one usable sound in Cakewalk Sound Center is very poorly recorded and the old 32 bit plug is not very Bit bridge friendly in a 64 bit environment. There are some really nice samples in the S1-Bass for electric but we need something that is as believable in recording, for stand up/acoustic bass. Or even just some additional sample sets and skins for the S1-Bass.

Not sure if this will work for you or if you even have the program but the Zeta Alembic preset is a nice little bass goodie I stumbled upon the other day and due to the highly tweakable nature of Zeta I could see getting something close to what you want from it.

Meh... worth a look anyway.

Thanks Beebster,

I don't have it here at work but my buddy does and that patch is pretty close.  Just sounds very "MIDI" even when played correctly. Once you record real acoustic, its hard to settle for less and the S1-Bass is pretty darn close to electric stuff we have tracked in the past so, I know its within the grasp of the designers who made that bass synth.

The TRILIAN acoustic bass is to die for but so is the 300 bucks for it!!!! Sounds amazing in the mix or by itself but, as usual, there is that odd correlation between stuff that is awesome and stuff that costs a fortune!! lol

The one exception I have found to that rule is Addictive Keys...beautiful and affordable...rare combo!

See this is why I'm secure in the knowledge a true string player will not be able to be replaced by a computer anytime soon. They can get close but there are just some things that cannot be duplicated without a little flesh and nail.

Oh and I was thinking with that patch you could incorporate some automation/mod wheel/humanize type stuff into the mix to get a little closer. Have you tried out the double basses in the DSF Orchestral Strings or the Garritan Pocket Orchestra (provided you have access to those programs as well)? A little bit if guitar sim processing can turn those into some neat tones as well. Better yet blend three tracks from all three different synths on the same MIDI program to sang the best timbre from each.

Cheers.

All good ideas for sure but really the long way around...sometimes there is something to having a well written patch that simply inspires you to play it...

My mistake was having ever playing the TRILIAN demo in the first place. lol..
Simply inspirational and gorgeous just the way it sits in the basic patch!!!

Heh... well I think you know what you gotta do then... as painful on the wallet as it may be.

Have you tried the Dimension Pro patches? I thought I remembered hearing some good sounds there...

lol...if the bakers can come up with a Bass synth that sounds as good as SI-Bass....they can surely make a Jazz Bass to match...lol...even I could picture this one....

It's a tricky one to imitate. If you have ever actually played a Dog House Bass you'd know that there's a million different sounds that come out of one. Both your left and Right hands have this huge range of control over the attach, tone and dynamics. Then try and play in pitch!!
A good Acoustic Bass synth should randomly go off pitch a titch. . :)
I had one for years and let it go to kid who was going to College and needed one. I don't really miss it 'cause it took up a lot of studio space. The strings needed replacing @ $300 too.

SO I'd gladly pay $300 for a synth that emulated one.. but I can't see how you would manipulate all those subtle tones, slaps and slides.
