Hi Bob,

I appreciate your comments but I think CW causes us all unnecessary problems by not updating the help files when they change something, in every other version of Sonar ive used i simply alter the tempo in the main UI and it stayed changed, which is the way the help files state so why does it seem too much trouble for CW to just add the info Karl has offered to the help files?...If they did that more often they perhaps wouldnt need so many staff in tech support.

I do use the forum but i didnt get the info i was looking for in this particular instance but i quite agree with you that the forum members are a great deal more helpful than the company themselves.

Damon777, has the Tempo function actually changed? AFAIK, there has never been an "Delete existing tempo changes" -kind of feature in SONAR (that would be great to have!) for changing the project tempo. SONAR assumes the changes in the middle of the project are there for a purpose, and are not meant to be changed even when original tempo is changed.

The two usual traps people fall into:
-The project has copy-pasted MIDI-clips. Each of them has a tempo definition in the beginning. Numerous times
during the years I've had to go through the clips/Tempo view to delete those. I don't remember if there's a "Paste Special" -option for not pasting tempo changes, maybe there is and I haven't noticed??
- You have tested different tempos somewhere in the middle of the project and so inserted tempo changes.

Hi Kalle,

I can only assume that the tempo function has changed in that in X2 I now have to go through the steps Karl has mentioned when ive not had to do that with either X1 or 8.5.3, but where does it give this information in the tempo section of the help files? Im not presently concerned with numerous tempo changes within a project but just the main track tempo.

I don't think the function has changed has it? However the presence of other tempo changes in a project will give the impression it has if previous projects didn't have them.

AFAIK there has always been the change recent and insert new.

It doesnt really matter anymore since your input Karl (thanks) all i do know is that if i open up a new project in X1 and change its original tempo which is 120 bpm it stays changed as the help file states, if i do the same in X2 (90bpm) it remains changed for 1 beat and i have to follow your advice and delete the original tempo.
I just dont understand the logic behind that if nothing has changed between the two versions and my only gripe is that as far as i have searched, theres nothing in help files to point out your own explanation.

Maybe the project template you are using has tempo information already in it.

That sounds like there was/is an errant tempo change a beat in. The original is being changed but then over ridden almost immediately by the one a beat in.

ive been waiting for an answer for what seems like forever from support re the same problem,

Wow. I did not know that Cakewalk support would even address a problem about how to use the program. I assumed they confined their help to technical problems regarding the code not running as designed.

damon, have you opened up the Tempo view (step 4 in Karl's post) just to see what tempo related events are there?

Hi Jonesey,

yes, the tempo view in both X1 and X2 shows just the original and new tempo but only in X2 do i have to delete the original to retain the new but at least im aware of what i have to do now.
