Take lanes pretty much sealed the deal for me.
Me too, Mike, glad you have finally come on board.  Unless, of course, you are trolling, but I'm sure you're not.  I'll take you at your word.  Are you loving the other benefits too?

I also like the auto zoom, the time ruler zoom, automation lanes, console emulation, ProChannel effects chains and Breverb.

There are probably more..

When Cake first talked about X2, I wasn't that excited, but it was seeing it in action on the Webinar that won me over.

Wait a second, I thought everyone hated take lanes.

I think they're cool too. But I thought I was the only one.

My thoughts exactly.

I hopped on board for the take lanes - but the automation lanes (which I haven't liked particulary much in other DAWs) made me stay

Actually, besides that, the console emu, FX Chain module, black clip background and general workflow and stability enhancements was what impressed me. Auto zoom is pretty cool but I'm not sure if it irritates me a little as well.

Another reason for my upgrading to X2 was........stability.

I think the bulk of us like the lanes but aren't drooling over them because they need some tweaking. However the dudes that hate them seem to reeeeaally hate them giving the impression they're a flop with the user base. I really hope that doesn't make Cake do something rash like take them away. Layers were awful for how I work.

For me, it was Take Lanes and A-Type Console Emulation. Ironically, I don't like the Take Lanes because of all of the idiosyncrasies, and I ended up returning to the Waves NLS. Case in point, the Mike Hedges channel 2 on a snare drum with 50% Drive is pretty darn good and brings out the 'pop'!! I still use Take Lanes, but would be fine with Layers in X1. Console emulation is great if you don't have NLS.

I can say that after watching the hour+ webcast Cakewalk did for X2 I was hoping for better stability and better GUI response. I think there were 'some' improvements, but that quickly diminished once I uncovered some bugs in the first 15 minutes of X2 use. I immediately had a bad taste in my mouth. X2a fixed a few of those issues, but others still remain.

I would like to see X2 be stripped of a lot of features I don't use in trade for stability; I mean, letting ME un-install certain features I don't use so I can gain better performance. I think some stability issues were resolved, but new ones were introduced. So, whether I work in X1d or X2a, no longer makes any difference to me, unfortunately.

None of the above.
For me its simple; FOLLOW THE UPGRADE PATH.
