  • X2 Complete Screen Whiteout When Inserting Soft Synth

This is new: After installing latest update, I get a delay when patching in any soft synth. here's what happens - I insert DimPro. The program "halts" for a few seconds ...the screen goes completely white ...then it resumes operation and the synth (whichever is chosen) operates fine. ALSO: I now get crashes again when using Rapture x64 full version. ALSO: I get lots more "teleport.exe has stopped working" notices... Anyone else experiencing anything similar? I am very happy with SONAR X2, overall. I make money with my production using it daily. It's like a good girlfriend ... even they give you cramps sometimes but you ain't losing 'em!

Several questions:

1.  What service pack are you running for Windows 7 Home premium x64?

2.  You mention an update.  What update was that?  X2a?

3.  How many hard drives do you use, what kind of transfer protocol do they use (SATA 2, SATA 3, SSD) and what is/are the RPM's for any of the drives?

4.  If you have more than 1 drive, how do you have them set up?  Windows will be on the primary drive - which drive holds applications, and which drive holds things like projects and sample libraries?

5.  What, if any, analysis and tweaking of any background services have you done, for purposes of minimizing latency and any conflicts? (some antivirus software, for example, interferes with audio processing, and downloading and running DPC Latency Checker will give you an idea of the latency situation on your machine).  If your computer was bought off the rack, it will likely have a bunch of bloatware on it that will bog down performance, etc.

6.  For your interface, is it plugged into a USB 2.0 or a USB 3.0 port? (some have issue with running in a USB 3.0 port)

7.  What settings do you have for your audio interface, for Sample Rate and ASIO Buffer size?

8.  In Sonar, what is the Sample Rate set to?  It must match the Sample Rate as set for the audio interface.

9.  In Sonar, what is the driver mode set to?

10. In Sonar, what is the bit-depth set to, and what is the Total Roundtrip latency showing as?

Let's start with the above, and go from there.

I look forward to reviewing your responses, and to hopefully getting this worked out for you,

Bob Bone

That just happens sometimes. X2 still needs some fixing up. I had a momentary whitescreen when opening my current project and my system is fine. I'm hoping a b patch is coming soon.

If you're getting Teleport Server errors it means you're using Bitbridge to load a 32 bit plug-in in the 64 bit version. How many of your synths/plug-ins are 32 bit when you experience these issues?

+1  on adding your question to the list I am waiting to hear back from the OP on.  I forgot to add that one to the others I posed - good question.  We simply need more information in order to assist the OP properly.

musec03 -

This may help:

I was getting a variation of your problem (after loading a Soft Synth, things came to a standstill until I got a white screen flash - then back to normal). Also, I had a few crashes and Sonar X2a took a long time to load a project.

Dan Gonzales (@ Cakewalk) checked out a crash dump and suggested that I replace the "Legacy" drivers for my MIDIMan Keystation 49 (I loaded those when Windows Upgrade Advisor said my old drivers were not compatible with Windows 7 (Professional). The "Legacy" drivers don't pertain to your problem, but I threw that in that perhaps someone else may have that issue (I actually reloaded my original drivers and the keyboard is recognized by Sonar and it works fine).

Now, his other suggestion (that I think will solve your problem), was to run Sonar "as an Administrator". I changed the icon on the Taskbar to do that (as to not have to go through the manual steps each time) and the Soft Synth issue has gone and Sonar loads projects noticably faster.

Give it a shot,

Doug

Wow Bob... I will go about gathering proper factual answers to your questions. They're pretty darn comprehensive. Thanks A lot for caring enough to post your thoughts.

Hello emwhy... I primarily employ 64 bit soft synths on projects for the moment. That's a good puzzler question as to why teleport bespeaks usage of 32 bit plugs... I suppose Perfect Space, and other audio fx are going to still be 32 bit which may provide some helpful feedback, Typically, I using DimPro 64, Rapture 64, Session Drummer 64, EZDrummer and Superior Drummer are both 64 bit... ONe thing to point out ...teleport server crashes when I do a VST scan I've been told that's no big deal. Thank You for Your Reply Roy

Hi Doug... I do run SONAR as an administrator... But something in your writing is triggering a fact I have overlooked. Perhaps while answering the questions from Bob Bone, we'll have a more definitive view of what is causing this issue. Thanks a lot for your input Roy
