My softsynths in X1 Producer are working & responding to MIDI, but don't sound right at all. All patches sound similar. What is wrong in my set-up?

Hi Mr Couch

So...
What softsynths are they?
What does "right" mean ?
Do you mean you are hearing the sounds of something else? If so what?
Are all MIDI controllers (e.g. keyboards) on seperate MIDI channels? Do you have the tracks assigned to the corresponding MIDI channels?
Could you be more specific?

Welcome, may I suggest you update your footer so we know what you are using (have a look at mine).

Mr Spud,

Look near the top of the forum page, near the middle, and hover your mouse where it says User Control Panel, then click on Edit Profile when the drop-down shows up.

Once in the edit profile screen, click on the Signature tab and add your system specs there.  You will also need to put a check in the box on the bottom left, to tell the forum to add your signature to all of your future posts.  That's it - your post will now contain your system specs.

The rest of Alex's questions remain to be answered, for us to be able to give you any guidance.

I'm new to this forum as well as new to X1 Producer after using SONAR1 for a decade or so. When I use softsynths to play audio loops it sounds fine, but when I use softsynths to play MIDI groove clips or tracks, the softsynths have this certain saw wave mono-tone kind of sound, no matter which synth or which patch I select, it all kinda sounds the same. I must have a setting wrong or something. Can anybody help?

What softsynths are you using? You know that midi is little more than "note on - note off" messages. It has no "sound". If something sounds wrong, it sure isn't midi's fault.

Hi Potato

Could you stick to your original thread please? If you create multiple threads for the same issue it gets confusing, and people have to type everything twice... Plus people on the other thread will feel lonely and abandoned..

Thanks...

All patches sound similar.

Do you mean that there is some type of distortion or defect to the sound that is heard on all of the patches, or do you mean that all the patches sound like each other?

You probably need to be more specific about what does not sound right about the synths. Since the different synths are quite different programs, anything that is affecting all of them must be in their interaction with the host program (Sonar), unless what you are hearing is due to dropouts from insufficient processing resources. You might be clipping, squashing with compression, or filtering etc. etc. but who can guess without a better explanation.

It would be nice if this forum had the capability to upload audio files, but lacking that a better explanation of what you are doing and what you are hearing would help. Taking the time to write a detailed explanation of your problem is the first step in getting help.

Sorry Cake, this is my first day on the forum, I'm learning. I made a new thread in order to include my "footer" & to be more specific about the question, like you asked.
