Dude Ivey
Last night i was messing around online and found a guy who had recorded a partial song and put the 16 wav files for you to download and mix yourself. I stayed up all night playing around and mixing them. The song was only a minute long but still fun to play with and practice on. The mixing and mastering is what i really love to do and really wanna learn more about. Does anyone know of other places where u can download music to practice mixing and mastering? I know about Indaba music but most of that is just techno stuff and u just get stems and thats not as fun to mix. Ive done a few songs on there but id like all the tracks instead of stems. Im just looking for tracks to practice on.

Well how about a link to the files you downloaded so we can all have a go?

If you subscribe to Lynda.com they have a couple of mixing courses with files to download (you have to get the gold subscription which is slightly more). For $35 or so for a months subscription, taking the courses is well worth it.

The website is www.lightningboyaudio.com and then click on the Engineering Weekly tab, it has some videos of him recording the songs.

That'll keep you busy for a while!

Also, the other day I found the (legally) downloadable source files for some of Jonathan Coulton's stuff at http://www.jonathancoulton.com/source/

If you're not familiar with Mr. Coulton, he is currently in the news over the tv show GLEE ripping off his arrangement of "Baby Got Back".

What else do you need apart from stems?

Dude Ivey
id rather have all the tracks. instead of having a stem of guitars or drums u have more control with each individual tracks.
