You can do that by manually drawing in automation envelopes with the Draw tool. It provides a number of predefined shapes (including sine). Right-click the Draw tool in the Tool module of the Control Bar and choose Sine.
Then set the Snap Resolution to the cycles that you want. Meaning, if you want one cycle of the sine wave to be completed for every quarter note, then choose 1/4 for the Snap Resolution.
Then add a envelope to the track and click near the middle of the track and hold the mouse button. Then move your mouse to the top of the track and drag to the right so that you get the full cycle going up/down the entire width of the track.
That should create the automation that you're looking for, if I understand your question correctly.
