How do I loop individual midi tracks in Sonar X1 Studio? I don't want them all the same length of measures.

   Thanks,
     Bill

You can't. SONAR provides one set of uniform tracks and one loop region for the project.

What you _can_ do is turn MIDI clips into MIDI Groove clips so that you extend them for multiple repetitions, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

You can also look into using the Matrix for experimenting with project arrangement, but I don't remember off-hand if the Matrix is included in the Studio Edition.

Dear Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I bought both the hard copy and ebook versions of your Sonar x1 books. I couldn't figure out how to do the midi groove clips. What am I missing?

I've been working on looping midi tracks since the 80's with SmpteTrack. I think we communicated on Atari forums over the years. I'm in the Boston area.

  Take care,

Right click on the clip and select Groove Clip. Then just stretch the clip. It's in the help files as well.

Or select the Clip and press Ctrl + L

or

Select the clip(s) > open the Inspector (I) > clcik the Clips tab at the top of the Inspector > Select Groove Clip > checkmark Looping.

A clip with looping enabled (a groove clip) will have beveled corners. If you range select a portion of a clip then enable looping a dialog will pop up asking if you want to trim the unselected range portions of the clip. It's best to copy/paste the clip in a new lane/track before doing this so you still have access to the original full length clip.

Hey Bill... thanks very much! Yes, I think you're right... we did chat back then because I remember your name. It's good to hear from you again. Those were the days, eh? I still have my Atari system and it still works. Of course, I'm using all new PC systems now.

It looks like Kalle and Beepster have already answered... just click on a MIDI clip to select it and then press Ctrl+L to convert it to a MIDI Groove clip. Then you can drag out the edges of the clip to create multiple repetitions. Check out chapter 9 in the SONAR X1 Power! book and it provide a ton of details on how to use Groove clips.

Best,
Scott
