Gibson needs to protect their name.

Bashing them on their forum seems like a good way to have the forum locked down.

I agree.  Bashing Gibson in the way we are seeing on this forum is not productive, and is the sort of behavior that can get threads locked or deleted, or worse still, for the forum to be closed.

I think we need to try and keep calm and seek to discuss our options with Cakewalk and Gibson in a productive manner. We may find that approach works better than an attack, despite the understandably high tensions.

Cheers,
Steve

We can agree or disagree with Gibson, but it makes business decisions based on its best information and analysis.  Many products I loved fell by the wayside over the years, but it was never the result of any evil intent.  Companies have to protect their shareholders or a different group will be after them.

I do agree, but if the message that Noel apparently put out there that authorization will be possible after the servers shut down was posted straight away, I don't think there would have been half the vitriol we saw in the immediate aftermath of the announcement.  Little of the community backlash would have been necessary...or justified.

Still waiting for that message, but in the vacuum of support and communication there's other stuff to occupy me time.  Like starting up Sonar.

But they have taken money from people for updates they will no longer provide. I chose to take another year of updates and paid them for it upfront. Waste of money. Ive emailed Cakewalk and Gibson and asked for a refund. No reply. Until they refund me and everyone else who'se lost money I dont care about their business decisions or their rich shareholders.

Gibson needs a good bashing! They build overpriced, poor quality guitars and destroyed Cakewalk. Don't even mention their ethics toward their employees. And yes, their ethics toward their customers is bad too.

I think Gibson will probably not for charge your card for the rest of monthly updates that no longer are coming.  But if you already paid in full, I don't think they'll be returning any money they owe you since they don't have any.  They are losing money so join the line.

Of course, we all should have know that paying in advance is a crap shoot, esp. in software.  We took a chance, and hey, it didn't work out.  Sad but true.  Lifetime updates was too good to be true if you expected to be getting free updates 5 years into the future.  2-3 years was reasonable, considering users would have been ahead of simply paying by the year.  Many paid $150 for about  a year and a half, where Gibson comes out ahead.  But not that much, if you were buying yearly updates.  If you didn't regularly buy each year's "new SONAR," well, you were trying to get up one on Cake and Gibson.
