If Gibson provides an offline file that I can load on the new machine I just bought then I'm fine with them walking away.  I'll never do business with them again, even if they survive.  I just want what we all want in the absence of a new owner: perpetual access to the software we paid for.

They're digging a deeper hole by staying silent.

I understand your point, but Gibson NEEDS to know how upset people are.
You are correct that it need not be extreme and vicious. So,Good point!

We can agree or disagree with Gibson, but it makes business decisions based on its best information and analysis.  Many products I loved fell by the wayside over the years, but it was never the result of any evil intent.  Companies have to protect their shareholders or a different group will be after them.

Konrad, it is not about decision Gibson has made it is about how Gibson has done it....
But how Gibson has treated Sonarians...

Did you see any official email from them about closing Sonar ? They published 17-th November info at their pages... So if you read every day their web site you were informed...

Do you see anything from Gibson about future for Sonarians? Any move to compensate abandoning its users?

They just published short info at their web and that's all... Like removing thrashes...

Gibson exist in history of music but Cakewalk as well.. 30 years... It does mean something... They should show respect to users, they should show respect for music market... It is not about selling beets or potatoes ...

I disagree about politeness ever working.  In my opinion nothing changes by being polite.  I love Sonar X3 it is a very good product and I hope the ownership will be transferred to that platform as well.  Sonar for me is like buying a music store having all the instruments included and than taking a trip through several various Mixer consoles.  I never could wrap around the name changes when Gibson bought Cakewalk.  Hopefully some Open source company could step in and it could become a public product like the open source licenses that many linux programs have.  It just too good and very complicated to explore, but worthwhile.    Any ways those are my thoughts.  I love Sonar and before that the product I liked was Dr' T's Keyboard Sequcner for the Amiga.  Also while Biab and RealBand  are excellent sequencers in their own right.  Sonar was more feature rich with their media browser and things like that.  I am going to miss this very much.  I used both those programs together.  In fact now I guess I'll have to use  stylemaker  in Biab,  Honestly I am heart broken the experiences people have made with these products is fantastic.

I think Gibson will probably not for charge your card for the rest of monthly updates that no longer are coming.  But if you already paid in full, I don't think they'll be returning any money they owe you since they don't have any.  They are losing money so join the line.

Of course, we all should have know that paying in advance is a crap shoot, esp. in software.  We took a chance, and hey, it didn't work out.  Sad but true.  Lifetime updates was too good to be true if you expected to be getting free updates 5 years into the future.  2-3 years was reasonable, considering users would have been ahead of simply paying by the year.  Many paid $150 for about  a year and a half, where Gibson comes out ahead.  But not that much, if you were buying yearly updates.  If you didn't regularly buy each year's "new SONAR," well, you were trying to get up one on Cake and Gibson.

No and no.
This isn't buying a lottery ticket.
And, taking advantage of an offer of a good value is certainly trying to gain some benefit for oneself, but not necessarily at the disadvantage of another. Sellers and buyers are traders, not enemies.

Im trying not to be upset with Gibson but as said, I feel like they treated us like trash in this situation.
No notice to paying Sonar customers about what will happen to their memberships, money, exc.

I could understand if Gibson had gone bankrupt but they haven't.
They have left 1000's of users wondering why, when and how.

Gibson need bashing, the way they have handle this is outrageous and unprofessional. I feel for all Sonar users and the cakewalk staff, it`s not good enough.

Why not make Cakewalk open source? (just a thought) And... Microsoft is not making much money on Windows so should they stop developing it? No, they were smart and moved into the cloud. I keep my Cakewalk project files in the cloud and pay Microsoft a monthly subscription for that. I like having the Microsoft apps too but I mainly pay the 10 dollars a month to Microsoft for the terabyte of cloud storage... I would much rather rent this cloud space from Cakewalk considering the collaboration possibilities between other Cakewalk users and that these files are directly related to Cakewalk. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater Gibson...
