As I said before I did some digging when I bought my Garrison guitar. The original company offered a lifetime warranty on workmanship. A few of the guitars had issues and owners all reported that Garrison dealt with that with no hassle, would just repair or give you a new guitar. They were slowly building a good reputation and making guitars to rival any domestic smaller factory guitars, like Taylor as example.
Gibson liked what they were doing , the owners were in finacial trouble because they expanded too fast.
Right away Gibson took over the Garrison brand name and immediately stopped honoring the lifetime warranty. This is what you'll find in posts on acoustic guitar forums from 2008. Outraged owners pisssed at Gibson,,, so history is repeating it self again here.

You know, we are the lucky ones who came to the forums and noticed the announcement that Cakewalk staff posted as they solemnly said goodbye before leaving and locking the door behind them. The vast majority of Sonar users don't come to the forums often if ever. They are still completely unaware of what has happened as they sit there in front of Sonar merrily doing their thing. They probably won't know until Sonar suddenly, one day during a big project, goes into Demo mode because their annual payments never completed and got them to full license owner status. Gibson has done f**k all to notify customers about this and most customers don't know about this. Those customers will also miss these crossgrade deals to other DAWs as a result of Gibson's sh*t attitude towards Cakewalk customers. Seriously, "don't slag Gibson off" Why the hell not? Should we praise them, clap and shout 'bravo' instead?

I imagine the key to unlock Sonar will be an Email..But that said there are lots of people who complain they don't get the E mails even though they had set that up.
Any how many didn't agree to the E mails.  As you say there are probably more Sonar users than we can imagine who will never know what happened until it's too late to fix it.

Possibly a notice pop up when you launch CCC ?

And I wouldn't fear Gibson shutting this Forum down because we are bashing them, the chance that anyone who works there has ever visited this forum are slim to none.
And there's a huge possiblity that Gibson doesn't even know this forum exists and it will run on forever with  some accountant paying the annual fee not knowing Gibson no longer supports Cakewalk.
And we now have other places to go even though I won't move from here until it's dead.

The list of ways we could get screwed far outsizes the list of ways we won't in my view.

Of course, Gibson being Gibson we can eat radio silence until our software stops working.

Actually, that's a good idea. They should put a notification on the Sonar start screen maybe. I should hope they are working all this stuff out at the moment.

Bashing Gibson doesn't help.
Petitions won't help.
Trying to do a kickstarter campaign probably won't help.
Calls to open source Sonar won't help.

Sonar should be able to run for a long time.  Project 5 has been running fine for me for 10 years, and that has been across 3 new versions of the OS.  Granted, some worry about authorization, but if Cakewalk/Gibson fail to provide a solution, a keygen will surely appear.

I can understand that the fear of Sonar stopping unexpectedly can hamper creativity, as many PC users of Alchemy have experienced.  Maybe now would be a good time to catch up on some reading, spend time with friends, learn a new language, or do something to help out the real-world community.

I thought about this from a corporate standpoint, and I agree that if this forum was a line item in a budget at the Gibson level, everything you speculate would probably be true.  However, I assume that the owners of this forum are Cakewalk, and for the bean counters at Gibson, the only thing they probably get to de-fund is the spreadsheet line that reads 'Cakewalk Music Systems'.  One click, and it's dead, I'm afraid.
