Very few singers want to sing with all effects disabled, so I would use either an outboard reverb or an algorithmic reverb plug-in so the singer can monitor reverb in the headphones.  The point is that convolution reverbs are CPU hogs.

If you have the MOTU running along side your computer soundcard , you should mute the computer speakers in the configuratie menu. That might be the problem.

I very much appreciate all the helpful suggestions.  I do have perfect space running.  I will delete that during recording.
My buffers right now are set on 64 on the MOTU audio panel.  I have tried everything above that.
I have Cuemix FX, but am not sure exactly how to use it.  I will experiment more with that.
As for my computer sound card, I do not have that enabled at all.  I only use the MOTU on this machine.

I will take your suggestions and try each one.  What a great forum.   Thanks.

You can do it with your Buffers at 64, as i can with my MOTU card. i can even set mine to 96 or 128 and not notice any latency when reocridng vocals.

It's Perfect Space that's doing it.

If I use A convolution reverb I will replace it with an algorithmic one such as Pantheon or Breverb, and bring PS back in when mixing.  The other culprits will be LP64 multiband comp or LP64 EQ, or PC Concrete Limiter.

I can direct monitor through my desk, or my Sound card, but find that vocalists like to sing through/into certain effects.

If they want reverb I'll use Pantheon or Breverb, as I don't like the reverb on my desk.  I often use the PC2A comp as they often deliver a better performance singing through it.  Just make sure any convolution reverbs or "look ahead" effects are disabled or bounced on other tracks, including the master.

JB,
You were correct.  I deleted the perfect Space and Voila: I now have no latency when recording vocals.
Thanks a lot.  You were all so very helpful.

Thanks again,

Dave

Whenever I record anything the first thing I do is to globally bypass all Effects.

See, i learn something eveytime I vist the forum. I did not know you could globally bypass effects. I need to figure out how to do that! Thanks Bristol!!

There's a button in the Control Bar, I forget which module, but it's Labelled Fx. Toggle it on/off here.

Or...... there's a keyboard shortcut, I think it's 'E'

You're right, Bristol Jonesey, the keyboard short cut is "E", right next to the "R" key for record.  I hit it by mistake ALL THE TIME.  The first time I did it really threw me - "Why does everything sound odd?"  Took me an age to suss it.

If you really want to use Perfect Space you can also try setting it's latency in the info section
