I have submitted a feature request for this functionality.
 
What got me thinking about it was watching the Charles Dye video. He started his mix project by opening a bus template file that created several fx buses he uses.
 
I have several older projects that I recorded just to get the idea saved and I would like to move them forward to continue working with them. Even some recient projects need to be updated as I improve my process since I do not always create a number of buses when I first start a new projet. I have created new templates to use going forward but next year I could be in the same boat as I get better at mixing and arranging etc.
 
 
Currently In order to achieve the change on an existing project I created a template with no tracks just buses to use migrating things.
 
I have created a new project called mixing bus template in its own folder using my template.
 
Saved the project and not I can copy this new project into the folder where the project I want to migrate is and rename it accordingly.
 
Then I can open both projects and select all in the original project and copy... go to the new project and paste.
 
This creates all the audio and midi tracks etc but does not add synths so I have to manually add them if I have not already bounced them to audio tracks.
 
At this point I have to go through the project and direct each trak to the correct bus and add sends etc. Then I am ready to start mixing.
 
It would all be so much easier if I could just import a but template into my existing project that would add 1 or several bus tot he project. I would still need to route things but all the other bus, track and synth would remain in place and it would be much quicker.
 
What do you guys think?

Yeah, I think that would be a useful feature to have. There does seem to be too much feature separation between the track and bus sections. It's gotten better, but they could still use more integration.

btw, this forum doesn't use java. It uses MS .NET and javascript (not the same thing as java). Not to get all technical, but I think the spellchecker is AJAX-based (javascript and XML). So you'd have to disable javascript in your browser to break the spellchecker. Not saying you did it, but I'll bet a lot of people accidentally disabled javascript after the whole java security announcement a few weeks ago. Two different things, and these days, you need javascript for a lot of sites to function correctly. A java applet always has the little "Cup of Coffee" graphic on it.

I agree that a buss template would be a good thing but it already exists..... almost.

When you save a track as a track template, all outputs, fx, busses, etc are all saved and re-created when inserting that track template.

All you have to do is route a new blank track to the required busses with fx etc all set up and save that track as a track template. To insert the "Buss template" insert the track you've just created as a track template and then delete the track.

I have a whole host of routing buss templates, fx templates, etc. etc all set up ready for insertion using that method. The only difference between a dedicated buss template and the above method is you need to delete the blank track afterwards. That's not a great hardship though so if it never got implemented it'll hardly bother me.

Tom, right but the security issues are with Java, not JavaScript. Java and JavaScript are two different technologies. There are relatively few sites that use Java these days, but JavaScript is pretty much everywhere. JavaScript happens to have the word "Java" in its name, and that's what's confusing. As soon as I saw that Java security report, I knew tons of people would mistakenly think they were talking about JavaScript and disable that in their browsers. Terrible job by Homeland Security and most media for not explaining that. So take my word for it (or look it up, but I've been in the Web biz for a long time), you should leave JavaScript enabled because it has nothing to do with Java or the security report.
