  • z3ta+ 2.1 as a VST FX plug-in: problem

Any users out there of Z3TA+ 2.1 that use it as an FX plug-in as well as a synth?  If so I'd be grateful for your advice.

I have a sketch project from a year or so ago where I inserted z3ta+ (the previous version) into the FX bin on a gtr track to use as a guitar FX processor and came up with a very usable sound.   I want to do a new tune using those same settings but wanted to use the new version Z3TA+ 2.1 which I recently bought, instead of the old version.  The old version will still do the job but vn 2.1 has a better interface and I should be able to use it for audio FX anyway.

However, even though vn 2.1 has loaded into the VST plugins folder it is not being located in the list of audio FX by the VST scan.   (It is working OK in its function as a synth).   I have done the usual re-scans and re-starts.

The problem seems to be when I look in the old version z3ta VST plugins folder it has 3 files:  z3ta+.dll, z3ta+_fx.dll and z3ta+.fx2.dll;
but when I look in the new version Z3TA+2 VST plugins folder it only has Z3TA+2_64.dll and Z3TA+2_64  (an .exe file).    There is no file with the _fx suffix in there.    Does this mean I did something wrong during the installation?  Can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I think your problem is not with the plugin folder and file arrangement, because mine is the same, and z3ta+ 2 does show up on the effects list. But, if that file name really does have two dots in it instead of the first being an underscore, as it appears in your message, that could be the problem. It should be "z3ta+_fx2.dll"

It could be stored in different folder. Find it physical location on the drive and check if you need to add that folder to plugin scan.

I think that z3ta 2 doesn't have an FX version

z3ta+_fx2.dll is an FX version of z3ta+

Right you are - it is.  The "2" made me think it was for z3ta+2.

The odd thing is that if I right-click in the effects bin, and look at the list of audio effects, z3ta+ 2 is there, and it can be dropped into the bin.  But how to get it to actually do anything is beyond my noob comprehension.

Thanks for the above replies.  However,

wr - thanks but the dot in the file name was a typo for this post.  (btw if you want to use the effects it's in the manual in your downloaded folder - you just toggle 'effects' on the screen when z3ta2 is open).

vladasyn - thanks but it's very unlikley the file is in another folder as the only thing I've done is installed it and all of z3ta2 is in the right folders except that it lacks the fx.dll that the old version has.

I've tried reinstalling - no dice -  I'll try the whole download from scratch.

The toggle is just bringing up the effects window for the synth.  There's no mention of an FX version in the manual, and I think I remember reading a review of the synth that was disappointed by the lack of the FX version.

Sonar allows you to configure a synth as a tempo based effect, and an effect as a synth. Go to the plug-in manager, click on the plugin and click properties.

Perhaps you have a synth version configured as an effect. However, if someone can confirm that there is an fx version of z3ta+ 2, then great.

Bigdogs, your posts tell the story. The fx dlls were dropped from z3ta+2. There is no way to use z3ta+2 as an effect. Both fx dlls in SONAR are part of z3ta+ classic.
