This evening I was watching the famed "Intro To Synthesis" video on YouTube, a quirky guide to synths filmed sometime in the 80's by Dean Friedman who was (and still is) a bit of a singer songwriter with a few albums out. He lives in upstate New York now and still plays. Anyway I was checking out his website, which in turn led me to check out his Facebook page. I was idly clicking around that, and clicked on his "friends" page to see if he was friends with anyone famous. On a whim I clicked on the "people you may know" tab of his friends list, and it came up with five people that are friends with him AND friends of my friends in Britain. I didn't know you could do this on Facebook.
It kind of shocked me, I mean I know there's this "six degrees of separation" cliche which says that there are only a maximum of six connections between any two people in the world, but to find
five two-degree connections between my friends in the UK and this random musician in upstate New York was very surprising (and quite delightful, really!). Really makes you realize just how small the world is.
