Its funny that JS dismisses those that actually run it yet take the advice of one that doesn't. I like Mike a lot. I listen to him as often as I can but here the idea is some how Win 8 is not ready yet when in fact it is. You have two posters with very different machines say essentially the same thing. That is rather confounding.

I also offered a solution that might work again it is ignored. When did this sort of behavior become normal?

Drivers I meant lol. I believe they were version 1.51 for the quad capture.

Same ones I have for the OCta. Did you also upgrade the System files in the OCtA well, quad control panel? That is a must or 151 drivers will not work correctly-per the roaland download page.

Go to the drivers profile (I think) and let it run self tests. I just finished my new computer and only have generic soundcard- I had clicks till I ran the self tests and it fixed itself. It will run tests if you attempt to change driver.

I went back to W7 because one morning i booted up and had no sound (Saffire W8 drivers), no mouse and no keyboard plus couldn't Ctrl Alt Supp. What the !!!

Tried a replace repair and goodbye HD. 3 days to re-install everything.
Whilst i enjoyed the W8 experience albeit briefly, I have no intention of going back there until a service pack comes out.

Just my private nightmare, don't let it put you off.

Cheers,
Jerry

I've just done a clean install of Win 8 having had pops and clicks with my previous Win 8  installation (which was over the top of XP) and the problem is still there. I've spent days and days trying to sort it out and I'm still trying.

Latest drivers, bios etc.

Previous hardware fine on XP

John I wasn't ignoring your responses :-/ Roland recommends only using asio drivers with their interfaces. Well I decided to try a new clean install of windows 8. I will give it one more try, thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I did several clean installs of 8 & ended up going back to Win7, first with X1 then Win7 X2a.
To me X2a is a bit quirky in general. It works pretty well but seems eccentric & prone to crash more than X1 did when doing the same type of normal  day to day tasks & editing.

While it is certainly true that Win 8 may have a lot of incompatibilities with hardware/software that was running well under Win 7, it is also true that upgrading, whether via upgrade path or as a clean install does a lot more than install a new OS. Unless you are truly anal about taking notes on every tweak, update or deletion that you did under the old system, you might not be able to reproduce those changes in the new OS. Many of the specific fixes or general tweaks that you had under the old OS will not be carried over to the new one. None of that will be corrected in any Microsoft service pack ever.

I've got my system working much better now though I will need to do a whole project to be sure. Still some minor click and pop problems with Session Drummer 3 with some programs (it could .sfx issues)  but nothing compared to what I had before. Have yet to test Korg Legacy which was also a bit crackly. Using msconfig.exe to disable startup services revealed just how much is going on in the background normally.

Mute button in mute/solo group still doesn't work as in 8.53 - maybe it's not supposed to.
Matrix cells were working after record to TV which they weren't before.
I couldn't hear an audible bounce through the distortion before  though exported file was ok- have yet to test again.

Hi JS

The Octa with the same drivers is rock solid on Win 8 pro laptop. as I mentioned above you "jave" to do the sys update to the quad control panel, not just the drivers. Did you do that?
