  • 30 New TH2 Presets causing File Encryption Pop Up Message [SOLVED]

I downloaded the 30 free presets and imported them in to TH2.

After doing that a message keeps popping up on my task bar ...

"Encrypting File System - Back Up Your File Encryption Key"

And there is an icon to click and it asks me if I want to back up now, later, or never.

I don't have any data encryption software on my DAW. I've never seen this message before, and it started immediately after importing the new TH2 Presets.

Any ideas why this is happening now since I installed the TH2 Presets?

I wouldn't assume that the problem is directly related to installing the TH2 presets, even thought it might look that way. Whenever something weird or unexpected happens on your computer, the chance that you've just recently installed something new is always going to be reasonably high, even though the two aren't necessarily linked.

But it does sound like you have some kind of encrypted file on your system.

Go to your start menu, type "command prompt" in the search box, and when it comes up right click and "run as administrator." Then type cipher /u and this should give you a list of any encrypted files on your hard drive.

I think EFS is built into some versions of Windows, so you may have it and just not realize. If you google that message, there are some discussions from people who received that message out of the blue without even doing anything, so it could be some kind of OS glitch or something. But anyway, I installed the TH2 presets and everything's cool here, so at least you know it didn't happen to one other person, although I'm on Win8 now, which uses Bitlocker instead of EFS.

I downloaded it without problem. Perhaps something else you downloaded recently activated BitLocker on your computer.

For whatever it's worth, I see this message on virtually everything I download and unzip (using Windows 7) from Hollow Sun (all libraries for Kontakt).  The warning seems to be pointless.  Everything works after the unzipping.  I've never felt sufficiently motivated to ask HS on their KVR forum why this is so, since there seems to be no problematic side effects.

Here's what happened ...

I downloaded and installed the FREE TH2 Producer Content Pack and the TH2 Producer Bonus Pack Presets at the same time.

The TH2 Producer Content Pack contains encrypted files and that's what caused it. I deleted the files and the pop-up message went away. It contains IR .wav's so I placed them in the TH2 folder. The presets still show up in TH2 without the IR's there, but I haven't tried any of them yet.

This happened because I didn't install the IR's properly.

Here's a video showing how to properly install TH2 IR's and Presets.

No it doesn't. I've downloaded both of these without the message you received. You have some other problem. Those files are not encrypted.

When I open up the zip file, and drag the contents to my desktop, they are all colored green, meaning they are encrypted.

They don't look green if you view them from within the zip file, only when you unzip them.

I deleted the zip file, downloaded it again, and I got the same result.

It only happens with the TH2 Producer Content Pack zip file.

Don't know what else to tell you Dave.

It's not a big deal. I mistakenly thought I had to save those files to my TH2 folder and it turns out that you don't, so no harm done. Just one of those oddball things that happens.

I got some strange message I've never seen before about encryption when I unzipped one of the TH2 freebies - I think it was the Content Pack.  Something about not being able to encrypt the files and did I want to proceed anyway.  I went ahead.   It appears the unzipped presets imported just fine, but I haven't tried using them yet.  Don't know what that was about - maybe something about how it was zipped in the first place.
