Is it possible to have two sounds cards running in Windows 8 pro? I have a MOTU Audio Express and a Creative Audigy. When the Audigy is plugged in Windows won't let me set the Audio Express to default for use with media player. I doesn't even show up as a possibility in the device manager. It does however show up in my audio applications and I can use it for my audio work. When I remove the Audigy it then shows up in the device manager and I can set for default. I can't find any info online about this. Thanks for any input. Aric

I have my realtek audio working along with my audio device I use for X2. I think you need to set the CL as the default under Windows than setup your MOTU. I use the Realtek as a general purpose audio device for things like MP. Simply setup the CL first don't have the MOTU installed than after the CL is working install the MOTU. I used to do this in the past with a CL Audigy and before a CL Live and so on going back to the first Sound Blaster.

The Audigy series use ASIO driver. ASIO driver can only run one at a time. I had to physically remove my Audigy card from the computer to stop conflicts and issues. The drivers from Creative are legendary - Not in a good way, I do use the card still in my office computer and it's great for watching movies and playing music through my stereo system,, but keep Sonar away from it if you know what's good for you.

As long as your not getting any conflicts with windows using the creative and your audio apps such as sonar using the motu your best bet is to leave this configuration and use a mixer to connect your sound cards to your monitors. I learned a long time ago this configuration runs smooth for me on multiple computers and various pro audio sound cards. In other words, let windows use the on board sound card not your pro audio sound card. With this configuration I never have conflicts and can run windows media player, iTunes, sound and video in Internet explorer etc while runing Sonar at the same time. Also, make sure your pro audio apps such as sonar do not use the drivers from creative.

I use a MOTU Audio Express and a Delta 1010 in Win 8.

The MOTU is for Sonar and the 1010 is for Pro Tools 10.

You cant have them working at the same time however.
