Anyone using these like them?

How do they measure up to other $100-150 phones?

Transcript of a chat to a Bose sales rep:

Thank you for choosing Bose. A Product Sales Specialist will be with you shortly.

Welcome to Bose. My name is Joaquin, how may I help you today?
David: Bose acoustic equalization fine-tunes the frequency response of the headphones for exceptional audio performance.
David: What exactly is this?
Joaquin: That's the EQ technology built into the Bose headphones.
David: So if I am using these phones for mixing, they will distort my mix to make it sound like a Bose engineer thinks it should sound?
Joaquin: These headphones are not made to be used for mixing, primarily for a more casual use with your mp3 player, smart phone, tablet, computer, etc
Joaquin: but we do provide a 30 day trial for you to try it for yourself and see what you think. If you are unhappy for any reason, you can send it back for a full refund.

Are these the ones made from a plastic that perishes after 2 years?

Bose has just found a new way to say "hyped". Always on the cutting edge, those guys.

My view of Bose is they are second only to Monster Cable. They're not the only company that charges a premium for crap products but they are the most successful at it.

Ya Bose = hype

But in defense of Bose I have the QuietComfort 2s. I got them primarily for mp3 players and iPad. I love them. To me they are noticably better sounding then the Senhieser HD 280 Pro and Sony MDR -7506. The connector is small and perfect for these devices which is why I wanted them. The remote is great for controlling ipod/ipad. The noise cancelling works great for planes or just listening at night to drowned out background noise.

They do take 1 AAA battery to work which can be a pain.

However, I would not use these headphones for tracking or mixing. I'm sure they are probably have some active EQing etc. They are also not constructed as well as the Senhieser HD 280 Pros. However, at least the cord is seperate on the Bose. One thing that always bothered me about the Senhiesers. Just ended up replacing a cord on the Senheisers.

Also, if you are tracking you are going to want headphones with little bleed. The Senheisers have good isolation.

Also, I have a pair of Bose 301s that I've had for about 28 years and with the addition of a subwoofer they still sound great.

I have a pair of the older Bose earbuds and the original automatic noise canceling headphones. I did not buy them they were a gift from my father.

I have checked mixes on them from time to time and the ANC phones do help me to keep from having excessive bass since they are a bit bass heavy.

The earbuds sound nearly identical to my studio monitors after I used Home Theater shack wizard to help me tune a room eq for my main monitors.

They may be hyped and overpriced but to my ears they do sound good and can be used if you know how they are coloring the signal.

I also have Sony phones I use as a cross reference as well as a cheep pair of computer speakers. If the mix sounds good on all of them then I can be pretty sure that it will sound good elsewhere.

Edit: I would add that I tried to use the noise canceling phones for tracking but they are noisey as another poster pointed out.

No I haven't used them but if I needed some for what they
were designed for I would give them a go and make my own determination.

I have had this Bose unit for many years and have had other offerings like the 901's in the past.
It does exactly what it was designed to do and I haven't heard anything that even comes
close to the sound quality. I won it but it will be replaced with their current version when needed.

Bose is hype...yeah right. That's been their reason for success all these many years.
Equipment doing everything it was designed to do...well that is a place we may not want to go
here, is it?
