Not sure why all the unnecessary changes with X1 but how the heck do you draw a freehand tempo with curves and all in "tempo view" on a MIDI track?  I followed what I thought were the instructions in the help section but I still get rigid tempo (stair step) tempo edits.  I've selected the "draw" "freehand" in the selector but doesn't work.
 
Any help is appreciated.

Have you turned off Snap To Grid?
