I seem to be getting good results with mixing however I am just not satisfied with how the guitars sound in my mixes. They just don't "POP" out or stand out, I don't want to say muddy, but kinda "blah". Any suggestions of what I could do to get them out front and "pop"?

Id put them on Sound Cloud so we can here what exactly you are describing.

Many good ears here LOL

One thing that comes to mind off hand is using EQ to get more presence but have to hear it

I'd say revisit that guitar thread you posted a while back and play around with some more of the suggestions in there. That really was a great thread with lots of slick approaches. There were so many varying methods suggested I'm sure something will work.

I think I have it bookmarked if you need it.

Cheers.

Beepster: That is what I have been doing. I did see some results, however, I lesten to other recordings and I just can't seem to get the out front.  I will post online in a bit so you guys can hear. Maybe that will help

Right on. Posting your input method(s) and what you've tried so far will help too. I may not be of much use but I can try. Hopefully you can attract Mr. Danzi to the thread. He'll know what to do.

Cheers.

Ok, I have posted this so you guys can offer suggestions to make it sound better, I am posting the link here cuz i was requested to by digi2ns. So I am not trying to post in the wrong forum.  Also, I have not discovered anything new with my song writing so be kind! :)
As far as recording method, I just used a sm57 and a guitar amp, made 2 takes, panned one L and one R and applied some eq (tried all kinds of different eqing). I don't think is sounds terrible, just doesn't pop. (I attempted to master a bit with Ozone 5). No effects, no reverb, nothin! Trying to keep it clear and audible.

I thought they sounded good.  You don't want them to get harsh.

I'm only on my laptop's internal speakers and those guitars are most certainly popping. They sound good, man. Step away from the mix for a couple of days and listen to it again. Your ears are probably just burnt out. Happens to me too.

Nice work.

I have been listening to it daily, multiple times. for a couple of weeks. I think it sounds good for the most part, then I made a big mistake and listened to some other "home recordings" and heard a couple where the guitars sounded so much better, they were way out front, crisp and clean, yet perfectly mixed with the rest of the music. I will move forward. I feel better knowing they sound ok.  I am getting ready to put out a CD and am worried it will sound lame.

Thanks folks!!!!

The guitars sound great to me on my Grado's. The drums could probably use a little work, although overall the mix sounds pretty good to me. I would have probably mixed the solo a touch louder also.
