Continued...

And by the way...
This pc is one of 3 - the two others are installed with 8.5x and X1 ( which is not too hot either )

So its not entirely true that the entire studio has stopped... Sorry - but I was very.... I mea VERY upset....

So thank you to you all for participating. I fully understand you who thought I was very strange.

Best regards from Denmark

Damn, dude. How come you didn't post that a little sooner?

Look at what these guys did in your absence.

Seriously disappointed with some of the posts here.

I'm about to go out so I'll have to look at all that when I get back home but hopefully some of the other guys can get stuff sorted out for you. Yes Sonar can be quirky but with a little bit of effort and tweaks you should be able to get it running well. Personally though I think you might be better without the "a" patch. It seems to be screwing up a lot of people's systems. X2 build 306 worked pretty well for me and I just applied the Quick Fix last week and things seem to be fine.

Cheers.

Yeah.... Sorry.... Seems like there was some history that I wasnt aware of.... Maybe time difference play a part as Denmark is 6-8 hours before so i have been sleeping and then working for 10 hours before getting back....
As i wrote - I understand the ones that got annoyed and i'm sorry..

That's a big 10-4 Rubber Ducky.

I've been running X2 really well and I'm not going to install the 'a' patch. I did see a lot of problems until I installed the Quick Fix so I'm kind of blown away that you got by so long without it! That's great though!

I didn't even install X2 when I bought it to be honest. I waited for the first patch or Quick Fix, whichever came first, and it ended up being the Quick Fix. I installed it and used it and saw some flaky behavior then I installed the Quick Fix and it's been working like a charm for the way I use it. Not saying there aren't things still messed up, I just don't go in those area's of the program. For example, all these Staff View and PRV view problems I've been reading about. I don't get in to those area's much.

im a lot like bub where i only use the patch if i need it.
but ive been getting more adventurous as of late and making a system image and trying it out.
this last patch had some pretty cool features in there.
im pretty happy with my sonar expeience lately.

bub glad to see your having good luck as well  :)

That is it ! I have had it with Sonar.
7 days with no studio income because of X2 Producer. Nothing but dropouts, ticks, crashes, sudden distortion after countless hours of tweaking and no useful reply from support. X1 wasnt much better but at least it worked for a few hours every day with only a dozen engine stops and a few crashes and a little distortion here and there.

So.... Goodbye... Tomorrow I have to find a new program...
Any suggestions ? I mean GOOD suggestions that works day and night without agony...?

sorry if i didnt read all these posts but,i see you have 2 SATA hard drives, each one is 1 t.b.
sonar isnt installed on one of these huge hard drives is it?
thats a big hard drive to to ask for instant recall on all sectors.
its great for storing projects and librarys but think about installing your OS and sonar on something smaller like a 500gb or less.

I had a few minor problems with build 306 but it seemed to run better than X1d so I was happy. I don't think Sonar will ever run perfectly but what DAW does? There are probably alternatives that might be more stable but they cost WAY more and don't do as much (at least from my research) so really... it's a situation where you have to weigh the pros and the cons and make the decision that works best for you. I just don't understand the fighting over stuff like this. It's just a piece of software. People have far more value than a pile of bits and bytes.

Meh. Maybe I just haven't hit my bitter phase yet. ;-p

Hi again.

First of all thanks for all your replies.
And I agree with you that my post is very sad and not seeking constructive solutions in any way.

I'm a musician more than anything else. I spend my time to be creative for myself and for all the musicians that comes in the studio.

Believe me when I say that I have done more than most musicians would do to make X2(a) work but I want to spend my time on music - not on buffers, drivers, Windows tweaking and all that.

So ... For those of you That knows a lot about it this is my setup:

Dell XPS Studio PC, i7, 3 GHz, 12 Gb RAM, with a clean installation of Windows 7 x64. Newwork adaptor is disabled in BIOS along with the built-in soundcard. For this maschine I use 2 x 28" monitor running in 1920 x 1200 pixs.
Also for this studio I use the Allen & Heath ZED R16 firewire mixer with the latest driver and matching firmware.
After the clean install of Win 7, all of Dells own applications and tools was gone and the Non relevant tasks are set to manual start and are inactive when Sonar runs. there is no antivirus.

There are no other programs running on the pc exept Powerdirector for video editing.

On top of the clean Win installation X2 was installed from the optional CD. The installation went fine. After the installation X2 was launched for the tests and so on, rebooted and X2a was installed.
Then the countles modules, instruments and patches was installed. All in Admin mode and with no breakdowns.

Then the trouble began starting with countless dropouts. I went through the entire website and this forum and tried systematically every possibility one at the time going back to the previous settings as soon as the latest setting was changed - you know how time consuming this is... Right ?
I have consulted all the Cakewalk documentation including the reccomandations in the 9 hour long video.....

Just when I thought I had it after 20 miuttes of recording and playback Sonar went into a distortion hell almost ruining my Adams monitors.
This let me to believe that there was something wrong with the firewire card in either the mixer or the pc but a change with the simalar mixer in studio 2 and a new firewire card in this Dell changed nothing.

As I said I like to spend time on music.
However narrow minded it might seem I expect my daw software to behave as it is supposed to. I dont mind spending 15 minuttes tweaking latency and buffers for the driver and harddrives - but then I expect results and getting back to what its al about: creating and recording

Glad you came back!

Are you running a TI Chipset for Firewire?

I am not familiar with Powerdirector for video so I do not know what it installs.

It would not be the first time video editing software caused problems. Not saying it is or isn't.  I would have preferred to get audio working first before installing other software.

Be sure to disable windows sounds.

Any wifi or Bluetooth should also be disabled.

Have you run dpclat.exe?

AS long as your drives are healthy there is no problem with them.

You do not want the operating drive to also be the audio drive.

I have several HD's on my system, but only 2 drives are required.

Main drive is a 1T which has the operating system, all programs, and samples.
Any other drive is used for projects and audio streaming.

Under Device manager are there any warnings?
