Problem with old version - Sonar 8.5.3

Whenever I try record a fresh project I get the following message:

"Unable to open record device. Device may not support the current project's audio format or may be in use.
For help, please visit:

It works on WDM (which the support page recommends trying if ASIO fails), but naturally I'd prefer to use ASIO if possible.

Also, nothing happpens if I click the ASIO panel button in Audio Options.

I have tried various sample rates, 44.1 and 48 being the most obvious.
Windows itself is using Realtek, so no simultaneous use there.

Anyone have this happen before?

Drivers is latest version, just re-downloaded and re-installed to be sure.
Info at PreSonus states XP SP3 32bit only is supported, so I didn't mix up x86 and 64.

Should put this in the other forum. This one is for X1 and X2.

Go to Options-Audio-Drivers and make sure the RealTek drivers are not selected.

Thanks for your reply: No other forum seemed appropriate.

I have now tried installing on another XP SP3 PC, same result.

I experimentally downgraded from the 1.2 driver/firmware set to 1.1 (It flashes the firmware if it does not match the driver), and THEN, on the OLD driver set, it worked!

So in conclusion, if anyone is having the same issues:

If you want to use ASIO,

For XP SP3 32bit, you need the old 1.1 driver set,
For Win7 64bit you need the new 1.2 driver set.

I don't have Win7 32bit.
