Hi to Folks that have helped me and over the years,

I used to use Sonar ( I still sometimes do for archived projects ), I decided after buying X1 that it was never going to be stable ( I feel the same about lots of Roland stuff). To be honest I wanted to like it ( lots of brilliant ideas in there but all that I use daily poorly executed ). To cut a long story short it was easier for me to shift to S1 rather than waste any more time with Sonar ( I know that a lot of folks here have had no problems with Sonar at all, I wish that was the case ).
Anyways to my point......
This is the first time I have visited here for a long time ( I used to be a daily visitor ).......how things have changed......
In my past experience this forum was one of the most helpful and friendly places online. Today ever post I have read has been argumentative, agggressive, Cliquey, and in some cases just plain nasty ( there was one post where everyone was attacking someone ( agreed they might have been a troll ) on their nationality.
I'm sorry to say that the tone has changed round here for the worst, I never went on gearsluts etc. because of the attitude, now apparently the Sonar forum has went the same way.

Its been a sad day seeing what this place has become.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of folks will jump on this and start picking fights, to be honest I don't care, hopefully some of you will hold a mirror to yourselves.

When I read posts about this forum not being as good as it was before I often think its due to selective memory. What I find disagreeable about it is if it is so awful do something about it and post good solid thoughts, answer questions and help those that need it. Or is it easier to find fault rather than being involved and doing what you can to make it a better place.

If you see a post that is attacking someone say something, report it or do as you have done and leave. Those that are not engaged should not find fault with those that are.

This may seem a harsh and intemperate post but its sort of galling to have someone feel so good about themselves for not participating and contributing. We may not always post at our best we may make mistakes but at least we try.  I would very much like to have you here and have the opportunity to read what you think. Lets hope you can be here more often.

I'd say for the most part the forum is pretty much the same as it's always been over the past ten years. People have come and gone, but there is still the same mix of personalities, the same mix of reactions when a new version comes out, and there's still good information to be found here. And of course plenty of arguments like there have always been. ;-)

Actually aside from one or two people who shall remain nameless, I have found this forum to be super friendly and helpful. I think it's off-the-charts friendly compared to somewhere like Gearslutz. That may in part be to do with the average age of members here - judging by the tone of a lot of the threads on Gearslutz I would guess that there are way more 20-somethings-with-attitude than there are here. That's not to say that all 20-somethings are full of themselves, but you do tend to get more of that "if you don't know what I'm talking about then you're obviously too stupid to be here" attitude the lower the average age range of a forum is. I used to find exactly the same on coding forums back when I was learning to program. I'd have the younger crowd trying to dazzle me with their Mad Coding Skillz and patronizing me if I didn't understand, while the older crowd would be like "don't listen to them, here's how you do it."

Let's face it, the anonymous nature of internet forums brings out the worst in people. They say things online that they would never dare say in a million years face to face. I've been active on forums for years and have to say the tone on this one is way more positive and friendly than 95% of forums out there. No forum is immune from snippy attitudes however. I've been on new-age-herbal-remedies-and-knit-your-own-yogurt forums where a simple question about St John's Wort has turned into all out thermonuclear war. So I'm grateful for the Cakewalk forums. Look at the outpouring of grief and respect after B.A. Midi died. I haven't seen anything like that online before (although I'm sure some of you have).
