Oh and I have to say, 99% of the unfriendliness I've seen on this forum has been in response to people with a 2 post history who come on, say "Sonar sucks it's a piece of crap and anyone who uses it must be stupid, I've been using it since 2001 and it's only worked like twice" and then run.

Hi Andy,
Nice to see you again even if it's just to pop in an look around.
People come and go here and I have wondered on occasion what could be the cause. Like Pop and Jinga to name a few. Hopefully they are well and just chose to move to a different platform such as yourself.
I'm glad to see you're well. Unfortunately we were informed that the last member we hadn't heard from in quite some time (ba_midi - Billy Arnell) sadly passed away.
And yeah the dynamic does swing on these forums now and again but as StepD mentioned it pretty much always has.
Maybe I'm a little close to the forest so to speak. I wonder that if maybe I did't stop in here daily then came back in say a year if I would think the same?

" Audiosnap?    I once got that to do what it said it would do."
Holy crap, really?
I never even came close to it doing anything except opening the AS pallet.
I totally gave up on it to the point that I even forgot about it as a feature until you just mentioned it.
I wonder if it's still an option in X2 or did Cakewalk even give up on it?

Well good to hear from you even if only for a brief passing.
Take care.

I was hanging out on Eggxpert forum in computer building section. This person wanted to buy 2 videocards $400 each, to play videogames,  so I suggested- it would be easier to use Playstation. There was a reason- he wanted to buy same games Plastation offers. Well- somebody else said- it is off topic and complained to the moderator. Apperantly- on that forum they only allow 2 threads per person- one to ask about what parts to buy, another- to put parts together in to the computer. I met few very helpful people, but I told them- that is weird place to be and could not wait to go back to Cake forums.

Also- it depends on the season. All forums go through the phases.

The thing that is most pleasing is the great quality and number of new or semi new members. In my view we have been blessed with a lot of helpful, eager and good natured new members. They more then make up for any loss along the way.

I have to agree with the others and go a step further in saying this forum has never been better.

It is up to us to keep going in this manner. If it is not pleasant to be here it is our own fault. We can make it better and we should strive to do so. I also think the amount of personal attacks has dropped significantly.

We are also human beings with all that that implies.

Its been a sad day seeing what this place has become.

I get the feeling your melancholy is about something much deeper that this Sonar forum...

I'm new here and I'll say that coming here was a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of other places I've hung out at on the net.  You may have stumbled upon one of the very few threads I've seen here where there's been any pokes to the ribs, but then you couldn't have read many other threads to form the opinion you're sharing with us.

I'm not the most patient of people so I'm continually in awe of those who can be calm, collected and helpful to someone who is trying to pick a fight.  I've learned a lot from them.

All this to say that I beg to differ with your assessment of the tone around here
Hope you'll stick around a bit.

Much of how a person perceives things is dependant on the mood they are in at the time.

Since communication via forum is 100% text based and 80% of all communication is non verbal and 1% of people are able to express themselves well with text means that the huge majority of perception is with the one reading the text.

Also there are many people who like to stir things up and come to forums to do that very thing.

I find this thread to be hypocritical in that the OP seems to think he can call the forum members rude and insulting, when the sole purpose of his thread was to be rude and insulting.

And that right there is the problem.  People want others to follow a set of standards and rules that they themselves do not practice or live up to because they are quick to forgive and overlook their own faults but not willing to do the same for others.

Granted I was having a skim through threads and I'm not denying that there are still helpful people here. My point was that since I was a regular visitor there is much more nastiness here. Maybe the posts I read aren't a true cross section I will admit.
Regarding not using Sonar I didn't come here to do some kind of " Sonar is #### " kind of post. It didn't do what I wanted it do do effectively so I moved to something that did.
I'm sorry to hear about BA midi......that's sad news :(

I would say the helpful users outnumber the others by a factor of at least 10 to 1

If anything, the standard of the board has gone up in recent years with the addition of many friendly, knowledegable users.

Andy,

Sorry Sonar didn't work out for you.

I've been here a long time, though, as you can see from my post count I haven't contributed very often. However, I do read through posts daily. I can't agree that the forum has degraded over the years. There have always been very helpful people, as there still are today. And the trouble makers have come and gone over the years as well. Just like in any area of our lives! Some we read very intently. Others we ignore.

Best of luck with your new DAW!
