Hi Everyone.
This thread is to ask the Cakewalk Staff and Managers to finally come out with a statement as to what happened and what is in the future for Sonar.
The whole internet is speculating as to what happened. Even to the point of science fiction. We all know that loosing your job , especially at this time of year is not the nicest thing that could happen.
As far as the healing goes, they always said talking about your painfull wounds be it physical or mental, only start healing when you start talking about them and finally accepting them.
I believe that almost everyone has felt the mental damage that Gibson put on us,but then again Gibson has it's own physical/ mental problems.
Just bring out the statement and let us all heal together.

Official company statements are one thing, but it's probably not reasonable to ask "staff and managers" to comment.  I have no inside information, but I would imagine the Cakewalk employees are prohibited from commenting publicly as part of their severence agreement.

Speculation at this point can not be a good thing.  We can only wait and see what happens.

In situations like this the employees are often the last to be told what's going on. They have really important issues to deal with like getting paid and negotiating severance.

Dan, you have much greater trust in human ability than I do; I'm not sure any statement on the situation could/should be trusted. I envy your idealism. Emotions are running very high at this point and, as is almost always the case, it's kind of likely that no one has a full story (which would mean that mere humans would tend to "fill in the blanks": which is never a good thing). I honestly doubt that there is an account out there which could considered complete enough to be accurate.
 
FWIW (and it may not be much), I'm totally satisfied not knowing what went on. I'm praying that Noel and the Bakers all land on their feet with new jobs as I feel very, very thankful for all their efforts over the years. They made a wonderful product. I don't tend to see Gibson as a terrible ogre in all this, especially after learning that Roland lost money every year on Cakewalk before selling it. I don't really feel that Gibson let Cakewalk down, per se, though perhaps some directions that weren't explored or implemented might have helped Sonar to hang on (as Craig alluded). I feel that Sonar was actually at its strongest in many ways under Gibson. As someone here very wisely said, companies don't sandbag product lines they find profitable. It is a given, unfortunately, that not every truly great product line makes enough money to survive. Let's not forget, however, that Cakewalk did survive for thirty long years. How many other music software applications have done that? There aren't many.

 
At this point, I'm not sure any more info would be helpful. I doubt that anything said would substantially change the actions of those of us who now have to decide where to turn since Cakewalk's demise.
