Hi all,

I have my ZOOM H2 working fine as a USB "Audio in device" in other applications but can't figure it out in SONAR.

Example: There is an option for "H2 Audio" in TS AUDIO to MIDI's "WAVE IN" option and it recieves and records my voice from the H2 with no problems.


Now in SONAR I want to do the same but there is no "H2 Audio" device listed anywhere.


I'm using an EMU0404 and can select its channels as inputs as normal but I just can't see where I can select the H2 so I can record my voice in SONAR.


Any pointers in the right direction?

I have now selected WDM as my default driver and magically the H2 appears as a selected input. Confused though. I get much better performance with ASIO but doesn't recognise H2. What gives?

Go here to get the latest firmware update and ASIO driver for the H2:

Then put SONAR into ASIO mode and look at the Drivers tab.
You should see the H@ input and output drivers there.
It seems the Asio drivers work better for the H2 which is an amazing device.

What gives?

You say your EMU is active, so it's likely the ol' one-device-at-a-time limitation of ASIO, where multiple ASIO devices are inaccessible, except where the MFG actually adds mutliple device support to their driver for their own hardware.

I get much better performance with ASIO but doesn't recognise H2.

Options>Audio>Drivers You have to deselect the E-mu drivers and select the zoom drivers (following what Richard said about one ASIO device at a time).

I now see the H2 in Input/output drivers but there "ghosted"


So is this what you guys are saying above also? I cannot have both selected at the same time? Dang if so!

Right, you can't choose new drivers (they are greyed out) until you UNchoose any current drivers (applies only to ASIO)

Um, OK, so I followed the advice here and installed the Zoom H2 ASIO drivers. As mentioned here, in SONAR X2 my Zoom device input driver was grayed out, so I had to first unselect my UA-25EX driver as my input device. However, that also means that I cannot select my UA-25EX driver as my output device, and I'm forced to select the Zoom for my output device as well! Obviously the little guy doesn't output sound---do I have to hook up headphones to the Zoom device? Will that work? Why can't I come in one ASIO device and out a separate ASIO device?

It's just a limitation of ASIO.
Try setting both to WDM/KS. It's not that one is better than the other it's basically that one works better than the other on certain systems.
WDM will also allow the use of two interfaces.

Give it a shot. Hell Zoom may not even give you the option of WDM.

Basically they say you can use it as a USB mike. Sonar and most DAW software don't play well with USB mikes because of the ASIO limitation. It's just not worth the hassle. Best to use the Zoom for what it does best and buy a good old XLR cabled mike to use with your DAW.

Options are:
Monitor through the Zooms headphone ( if it works? ) 
Record in WDM/K mode ( might mess up other things) 
Transfer a bed track from the song into the Zoom and use it as a 4 track recorded to overdub using the mikes.
