  • Delta66 with Windows 8?

Is anyone using a Delta66 (or 44 or 1010) with Windows 8?

mine is working OK, but I've been getting BSODs (well They're actually Gray now) since upgrading to Windows  8 and I 'm thinking the Maudio driver might be causing it. I can't remember the exact error code, but its a I/O not ready type of error, and I think these are driver related.

I was looking for other cheap soundcards that have Windows 8 drivers and ESI has them for the Maya and Juli@ cards. If anyone is using a Delta though - at least I'd know that it *could* work ;-)

No Win8 updates for it?

I'd say BSODs don't really qualify as working OK. That's kind of like one of the worst things that can happen.

Can you roll back to 7 until the manufacturers catch up to 8 with their drivers?

I have a 44 and it works fine. If you're upgrading from Window 7 you don't need to do anything. Make sure you have the latest version though.

I too have a Delta 44 and it works fine in Win8 using the latest Win7 drivers.

Thanks for confirming that it works OK. I have the latest driver 6.0.8 - so I'll look elsewhere for the cause.

I just though today that it may be the MIDI drivers (MOTU MIDI Express XT) so I'll check them next - and will reinstall (I'm finding that most things that don't work right in Win 8 - are better after a reinstall. I just upgraded over the top of my Win 7)

Beepster - you're right that crashing is a serious problem ;-) It's only happening once in a while - but it used to happen never ;-)

The errors are "IRQL less than or not equal to" type messages (I couldn't think of that when I originally posted) - which leads me to believe it's a driver - but it could be *anything*...

Yeah... something else is screwing up. Maybe some of your other computer components need driver updates (BIOS, etc...) or a hard drive is failing. I'm not good at in depth system troubleshooting like that but look around online for tutorials on how to go about it. Tom's Hardware and New Egg have good info for stuff like that on their websites. I think the guys at StudioCat and ADK might offer tech support for a small fee as well... of course you could also get a hold of Cakewalk tech support but seeing as how you are overseas it'd be a costly phone call and they aren't the greatest at replying to emails. You could send them all your details, get the support ticket then call them referencing the ticket number just to get some eyes on it then ask them to email you their opinion.

Cheers.

Wait... is the 66 a legacy PCI device? I had problems with my Echo card because of that and bridged as opposed to native PCI support. Maybe the update just pushed it closer to obsolescence. They do sell PCI to PCIe adapters now but that is less than ideal... especially for audio.

Just a thought.

I have dropped my 1010 as M-Audio's drivers are just a nightmare....Ranging from SONARDPR.EXE not being able to be killed to BSODS.

Nasty M-Audio.

Anyone wants to buy a Delta 1010 thats less than a year old then PM me.

I have switched to an MOTU Audio Express and it works like a charm in Win 8 on Sonar X2.

btw I found the latest Driver to be an absolute pain......

The most stable one I could find was rolling back to the 5074 driver.

I'm pretty sure it's "legacy PCI". I've got a Asus Z77 chipset motherboard, and it doesn't really have anything to configure for the "legacy" PCI slots. The Delta66 "works" ie there are no dropouts/clicks etc. It's just these occasional BSODs.

I reinstalled the MIDI drivers today - so I'll see how that goes. I'd hate to replace the soundcard - and have the problem still unchanged.

Of course - there are lads of variables. I upgraded the PC in June, then X2 in September, then Win 8 in October - but I'm pretty sure the problem started with Windows 8.

If the crashes still come after reinstalling the MIDI drivers, I'm going to:
- try a bigger buffer size (I always used 256 samples on the old motherboard, now it's 128)
- then think about replacing the Delta

As I said - it's only once in a while it crashes, so it takes a while before I know if a change has "fixed it", but I'll get there... ;-)

I made a mental note to look at that MOTU audio interface - although I'd prefer to try a PCIe one if I do change
