I've always loved the lyrics from "A Great Day For Freedom"
Especially the bolded sections, with the final two lines being very powerful

"On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived
On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbors turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone
Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of grey

I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitter residues slipped away...slipped away"

Best lyrics ever.

''Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town'

- Thin Lizzy

Hmm...thanks for the heads-up, but it's a bit vague, I mean, it could be anywhere....

Lyrics must be witty, but not over the top
They must be poetic, but not too corny
Lyrics must have rhyme, but not too obvious
They should use common language, but not too cliché
Understandable, but not too predictable
Make a point, but not too controversial
Stay away from religion, politics, sex, or your music will only be heard by an FM audience

I'm glad all the songwriters I admire seem to have completely overlooked those rules.

If they told you exactly where, they'd have to kill you...

Maybe the OP was referring to Bush's song Everything Zen?  These lyrics are flat out strange!

There must be something we can eat
Maybe find another lover
Should I fly to Los Angeles
Find my a****** brother
Mickey mouse has grown up a cow
Dave's on sale again
We kissy kiss in the rear view
We're so bored
You're to blame
Try to see it once my way
Everything Zen
Everything Zen
I don't think so
Rain dogs howl for the century
A million dollars at stake
As you search for your demi-god
And you fake with a saint
There's no sex in your violence
There's no sex in your violence
Try to see it once my way
Everything Zen
Everything Zen
I don't think so
I don't believe that Elvis is dead
I don't believe that Elvis is dead
I don't believe that Elvis is, Elvis is
There's no sex in your violence
