Seems nothing will be shut down for a bit and seems Sonar will be fine to use for now so what DAW works with it? Meaning a DAW that has different functions that can work inside ot along side? I know probably all of them BUT I mean there has to be one or 2 you guys use with it.

Suggestions please

It seems to me, from other posts on this forum, that Presonus studio one 3 is the closest in work-flow to SONAR.  I downloaded a demo and was recording in about 5 minutes without referring to the manual.  That doesn't mean that I can do everything I did in SONAR, it just means the basics are easy.

Good luck to you!

I also checked Studio One and we could nothing do what we did in SONAR.
This is because we misused SONAR to digitize thousends of tapes and vinyl, and the workflow from Studio ONE is so, that we cann't misuse Studio One for our work.
It depends on the needs. If you only use vst-synthesizers or if you use real instruments. If you need to experiment or if you record an orchestra.

Sorry for the OT, but just read Cakewalk is ceased by Gibson, so no more development for Sonar and related products, which are dead. As a Platinum registered owner and a Cakewalk customer since year 1995 , I want to give my solidarity to the Cakewalk workers/engineers, which maybe  (hope not) will lose their work; hope they may go on in their Sonar work under another brand, and mainly I want to to tell: Gibson SHAME!!

I think Ableton and FL Studio both compliment Sonar. They both do things much harder to achieve in sonar.

Thank you! This seems like the right way to go for me. Sonar might work great for years why not use something with it instead of totally starting over.

Please keep the suggestions coming

My biggest concern of all in a new DAW is easy of use for plug-ins. I am able to so custom arrange by name, edit names, etc. in a way where I can find any effect in my hundreds of freeware and bundled VSTs, and many more I paid ridiculous money for so I can work quickly. I tried the Harrison DAW for laughs (it was on a super sale - a few years ago for like $20) and uninstalled it and had to go wash my hands after. Terrible, terrible VST implementation regarding ability to customize and rename and organize. That's my biggest issue. Basic setting up tracks, mute or unmute, splitting, automation, there are not big differences there. The 2x oversampling built in is fantastic also, appreciate Craig Anderton having that idea. I don't think any other DAW does that. What I have in the latest update to Sonar Platinum is all I need and stable. I'm happy to just stick with that indefinitely to be honest.

I currently use Live to sketch out ideas and then develop the ideas in Sonar so I think it's a good compliment - I think Bitwig maybe as well. Note that Live does not support vst 3 so you can't use the latest Calkwalk LP plugins in it. And even with a new release it looks like Live 10 doesn't support vst 3 so I don't think it will replace Sonar.
