Did you try swapping the midi cables on one end, you may have overlooked it and hooked them up backwards.

Right - MIDI IN goes to MIDI OUT and vice-versa.

Read the section in the Help menu on Instruments. An INS file will make it easier to control, but I'm not sure is there is an FB-01 for that antique, but you might find one on the web somewhere. If not, just select a different patch number and you might get a different sound. Note: the FB-01 can only play one sound at a time. It is not multi-timbral or General MIDI. If you need General MIDI capability, use the TTS-1 softsynth.

I had a FB-01 once upon time.  I thought it was multi-timbral...?

Your soundcard only has midi in/out right?  So you'd want midi data to go KEYBOARD --> COMPUTER --> FB-01.

hi Matt,,,am a bit bad when it comes to midi...would it be midi out from keyboard to midi in on the soundcard(computer).and then  midi out from the soundcard(computer) to midi in on the fb-01?? I tke it that i have to connect the audio out from the fb-01 to the souncard after that?---Ray

daveny5 is incorrect. The FB01 certainly is multi timbral but it is pretty restricted though. As the manual clearly states it is an 8 voice instrument and can be assigned to 8 different channels playing one voice per channel or one channel playing all 8 voices or any combination in between.

But I got to say this is worst sounding synth I have ever heard from Yamaha and you really need to be looking into something a little better. But yes you have got your midi connections right in post #8.

See page 15 of the manual for the multi timbral stuff.

If you dont have the manual you can download it here: Just put FB01 into the search field and click on search.

thanks jeff----can mention ,that i got a midi response, when i tried the midi thru connection, but i was getting the keyboard sound aswell as the fb sound.(local is off in keyboard)..i have been trying to change  midi channels . I get the midi response when the midi thru is connected, that's when the my keyboard sounds come thru with the fb-01. I 'll check out the manual. I know the sound isn't good, but i want to use 2 of the sounds on an old recording i did...thanks
