Many times i tried to use the sonitus EQ and Compressor, but for me those just don't cut trough for me, sound's to dull ( and yes plugins have character ). I always ended up using freeware EQ and Compressor's. I don't want to have like 20+ EQ's and Compressors. I think it is better to have like 1 EQ for Cutting frequencies and 2 to add color, Same with compressors. I think it is better to have a few good plugins and really know how to use them at fully and know how they sound. So my question is: What plugins should i aim for !

Fabfilter is a good start. They are nearing the end of their holiday 25% off bundles sale. There is a bundle with their EQ, Compressor and Limiter. They have fully functional demos and tutorial videos on their website.

Or for a little less you could buy X2 Producer and all the ProChannel Modules.

I've found the PC stuff to be really good.  The RND yamaha plugs are very sweet if you stick native.  If you want more "character" or whatever you need to look at UAD.  Or just go analog to be really happy.

Good plan to acquire just a few high-quality plugins and learn them well.  If you have money to burn, the UAD line is hard to beat.  For less money, the Native Instruments Vintage Compressors and Premium Tube series are excellent.  They were developed by Softube, whose own Mix Bundle is worth a look.

My other current favorite EQ and compression plugins include:

Maag EQ4 - magical sounding character EQ
OverTone PTC-2A - great Pultec emulation for cheap
Klanghelm DC8C - very versatile and inexpensive compressor
Waves Renaissance Maxx bundle - classic workhorses, on sale right now

Always try a demo of a plugin before purchasing.  Good luck!

Cheers,
Eddie

The 6144 is their Portico clone.  For clean (surgical) EQ type, you want their IIEQ Pro.

At $39 each, I'd (respectfully) suggest anyone try these first before any of the the more expensive EQs.  You may find these are all you need.
