Fabfillter.  Some of the best plugs I have ever purchased.  And their support is second to none

Fabfilter EQ was not giving any coloration, but is good a surgical EQ ,  The DDMF 6144 EQ and the NYCompressor is fairly good.  http://www.ddmf.eu/products.php

EDIT: after some usage of the DDMF plugins , i found out that they also sounded just a bit Dull, like dropping a thin tovel over the speaker's.

Soundblend, You don't like the 1176 emulation in the Pro Channel?  I like it pretty well.  1176s are not as transparent as some compressors, but that is actually why some people like them: they have a particular sound.

I don't have pro channel.

Using X1 Studio

@soundblend: (IMHO) you would be better served in this area (comps/EQs/etc) by using your $$ to upgrade to the prochannel. By its nature, it changes the way you mix. Plus you can still add the vst's you have into the the proChan's signal chain (and it has some very good stock effects and good add-ons too...these have become my "base" plugins).

@soundblend:(lol) in X2......I can understand the hesitation. Lots of us on here have X2 (some have X2a..i dont need touch just yet...). And i can tell you X2 is as stable as my sonar has been so far. (and I too had a few issues back when X1 rolled out...but got um solved and updated to X2 and now it smooth as the PC-pure-EQ (lol)).....Plus I will say when I came over from a different DAW I was stuck between getting reason or sonar....the pro channel was one of the options that sold me on sonar, and it have developed just as i thought (helpping the way I already think about recording/editing&mixing...I offen go back a forth alot between these, and the proChnl being where ever i want it makes that almost seemless for me)......long story short (if theres still time, lol (sorry old S&S joke...) its worth the upgrade to start using the proChl

Southblend one huge reason to get Sonar is its built plugins like Pro Channel. You are asking about EQ and compression and the Pro Channel excels in both. Sure you need to upgrade to Producer and now X2 but in the end it will most likely save a lot of money for you and you will get some of the best plugins around.

If you notice you don't see a lot of posters asking for compression or EQ here. One reason, Producer has just what you need.

Because you are a Studio user you already know Sonar therefore the transition to X2 Producer wont be a difficult one.

But I must add this too. The Sonitus EQ and compressor are not bad plugins. In fact they compare well to very costly ones. If they are not good enough for you it might not be them but how you are using them.

One thing I have noticed is many people underestimate the quality of the bundled plugins CW provides. Really the only rational reason to go out and buy a plugin is if you need it because you don't have one like it.

I'm getting more and more comfortable using and appreciating the built-in PC modules...even when they come at extra cost.

To my inexperienced ears they sound good and I completely agree with the philosophy about learn a few really well. Not saying that once you know them you might not want to step out but in my view it is better to know the tools you have and how to use them.

Just my opine.
