  • Another dumb question. How can I link clips without copy/pasting them?

I'm looking at the manual entry and it sounds like the only way to do this is in the copy/paste dialog. That can't be right... can it? What if I just want to choose some clips and link them without copying them?

This seems weird.

This one is actually important to me.

Sorry to be a pain.

Cheers.

I went through the same confusion with MIDI clips until I realized that to be linked, clips must be identical. If you could link any two clips, there would be no guarantee they were identical. Restricting this to pasted clips ensures that linked clips are the same.

Or if it's audio clips you're talking about, can't you just create a selection group?

Hi, sharke. The problem is it seems in a Selection group they can only be edited (crop, split, etc...) whereas linked clips can have effects parameters and stuff changed on them.

Unless I am completely misreading the manual but I tried changing Pro Channel and FX parameters with a Selection Group and it only changed the current track. I was hoping with linked clips I could (which it seems to imply in the manual).

Really I'm just trying to figure out a reliable way to change PC, FX and other parameters reliable on multiple tracks without having to hold the Ctrl key.

There's gotta be a way to do this.

Cheers.

To give a real world example of why this is important to me:

When I am comping guitar solos I find that if they are in the same track that when there is any overlap the audio goes all wonky so I'm having to create a new track for each section. I would like to be able to link those clips so that anything I do to stuff in the Pro Channel or any FX in the bin change all of those solo sections at once.

Holding the Ctrl key constantly and making sure everything is selected while making such finite adjustments is kind of... not ideal.

Cheers.

Well if this isn't possible I think I've figured out a workaround. I'll just have to toss anything I want "linked" into a folder, select the folder then hold Ctrl while I do stuff.

I don't like that though. This seems like a fairly straightforward function.
