Just playing around with the Step Record feature and as I'm trying to advance or change note lengths on my QWERTY keyboard it sometimes registers the change and sometimes doesn't. Anyone use this function? I don't see it mentioned a lot on here. It seems like something I'd use occasionally considering I'm not a very proficient keyboard player.

Yeah... this is ultra erratic. Darnit. I did however discover a keybinding to insert a new track.

Shift + 0 and whatever type of track you had last clicked on will be inserted. Kind of cool.

Ah... work around is just using the mouse to change stuff in the Step Record dialog. Not ideal but it works.

I've dabbled with it, so many years ago now I cannot remember the experience. I had a similar thought to yourself in that I'm not very good at keys so I'll give this a try.


To be honest, I dumped the step record tool, preferring to just give my awful keyboard skills a go and then just quantise afterwards, either manually or with the quantise process.


I ain't gonna put you off from using it though, if it works for you :-)

@synkro... Howdy. Yeah I don't think it's really gonna make or break anything as far as my productions and I can just use the mouse (well trackball in my case) if need be. Seems like a remnant of how things used to be done. I'd imagine PRV has similar functions but I'm pretty good with a QWERTY (years of mundane data input in an office) so I thought it might be useful. There also doesn't seem to be a Give All Keystrokes option either so it's opening a bunch of other Sonar stuff. lol 

This is the problem with combing through the manual. You find every little goodie hidden in the program but some things are outdated or just plain don't work. Kind of like the Arpeggiator stuff. I'd imagine most people just use the controls within a specific soft synth.

Still good to learn though for a n00b if only for the concepts. Hope you are well. Cheers.

Beep I look at the step input as a crude method to enter MIDI notes into Sonar. I think it best to enter them quickly and edit the track at your leisure later.

Well for some reason the manual hasn't dug right into the PRV as of yet (but has explained some really obscure stuff for some reason) so I'm assuming there are better ways to go about what I'm envisioning. I just wanted to see if anyone else were having problems using the QWERTY and the Step Record dialog. Check it out... it's really buggy.

Hope you are well.

I've had better days, but shouldn't complain. Actually, I took my Suzuki Intruder 800cc cruiser in for a service and some new pipes today so I'm feeling more upbeat than usual LOL. I only rode it a couple of times last year on account of my knee playing up and I hope to be able to make up for that this year by putting another couple o'thousand miles on the clock.

As for what you are doing, it's a commendable thing, by going through a formidable manual, testing out all of the tools. Until we do something like that we really don't know what we have in that extensive toolbox heh...

I'm glad the knee is healing up. Pain sucks.

And yeah... I'm getting pretty darned bored of reading this manual but I figure once I come out the other end I won't have to bug the forum so often or waste time scratching my monkey head.

Eventually, once you have settled into what you are doing with your DAW, you will only use somewhere between 20~60%

At least that's what I have found anyway.

Then every now and then you will delve back into that hefty tome just to brush up on something, or try something new :-)
