  • Is There A Command To Toggle ALL Lanes? (p.2)

And the Key Binding to enable/disable Auto Zoom is Shift + Z

Yeah, that makes sense about the auto zoom. I usually only turn that on if there are tons of tracks.

I feel a little silly for not catching it sooner but I find Auto Zoom is... well sometimes it's cool and I like the idea but I generally leave it off. Meh.

I agree Beep.

I played around with it when X2 first came out and found out I was disabling it quit often to suit my workflow. Now it's off permanently

If we could easily choose which lane/wave(s) gets displayed in the main track display area when lanes are collapsed it would be fine. I've yet to figured how the heck to make the track view display things how I want in this regard. I remember reading about "Promoting" lanes on here but have yet to come across it in the manual and I'm still not sure it will work.

I keep saying it... they should make it so collapsed tracks work like Nuendo 2. You right click in the main track/clips area, a list of all the takes comes up, select the take you want on top and it appears while all other takes get muted (or have a setting to disable the auto mute if so desired).

I didn't even have a manual for Nuendo and I managed to figure out my workflow quicker than Sonar. It was however rather crude and basic but it worked.

With auto zoom on you can't compare waves to each other for editing. It's annoying.

Or maybe some kind of key binding that allows you to auto zoom more than 1 track at a time. You hold the key down when clicking on different track and the old one stays expanded. You can do this with as many as you want. Then when you stop pressing the key the next track click returns it to normal behavior or maybe have an option that the amount of zoomed tracks stays the same but the first track that had been zoomed collapses while the others remain expanded.

oof... this is too much thinking before tea.

I always have auto-zoom off... It gets in my way more than it helps (me)... It's a nice idea, but I'm guessing it's very hard to setup... Most automated things of this nature are much the same to me... I've had to turn off the smart-grid as well... I guess I don't think or operate in similar manner as those programming...

...and the various controls to quick group the Lanes View don't work.

I will try using the Lanes "button" as I haven't tried that option.... (I'm not at my DAW)

Not very well thought out/implemented... yet? <sigh>...

Oh, and yes, I'm using X2a (build 351 I believe it is)...

Do you think I should post this as a bug or feature request?

Thanks Everyone...

I feel your pain Keni.
As you have so eloquently outlined, Lanes is Pains...

I wish there was Some way The Bakers could return Layers (and leave Lanes here for those who like it).... Even with it's many bugs life was much easier for me all day long...

...and for some reason I can't seem to impress this upon Cakewalk. They had something unique and superior to everyone else and instead of fixing it's issues and improving it, they abandoned it and switched to following the pack and then not completing that job before releasing.... If they really had in mind to make it more than it is, they should have waited until it was a complete feature set that would accomodate their' varied user base... Not just a select group... But then I guess my opinion is a select group, eh? ;-)

Never an easy solution. I know they didn't do this to frustrate me/us and they must truly believe they're onto something better...

But it sure ain't close to that (better) yet for me!

I weather every comment I recieve telling me how I should stop "fighting" Cakewalk and simply learn to use it the way they make it...

I apologize to all of those people, but my experience with them and others is that if I don't speak up about these things.... often... they don't get recognized and improved. Over the years every item I've asked for has been addressed and tho often taking a long time, they frequently have surpassed my requests. They truly want to give us all what we would like and have to find a time/method of doing so. Our comments on these issues help them know where the emphasis lies...

Right now with all other things considered, the many issues I have with Lanes is by far the single most aggrevating aspect of X2... They are slowly catching up with the many needed items the new paradigm (as well as old) await...

I feel there are many little bugs that I am overlooking right now as I'm so overwhelmed with the difficulties that Lanes are giving me...

Here's hoping the New Year brings us nice surpizes... Wouldn't it be cool if Cakewalk suddenly released X2b on right now addressing these issues as a quickfix! ;-)

It's not a bug because it actually works. You just have to have auto zoom turned off then hold Ctrl while clicking the Lanes button on one of the tracks. This will toggle all tracks of the same type (audio or MIDI).
