Hello Cakies!  Hope everyone is well wherever and whenever you are.  Tense moments this morning trying to sign in to the forum.  Got it figured out but must have missed some kind of upgrade or shift.  But no worries I got it now....I think all my old posts and stuff are intact.

So the slow moving train that has been Distant Towers in 2014 has cranked out another tune.  As usual we welcome all your good and bad comments on the mix, the content, our bad attitudes, bad grammar and missed notes.

This is another of the select few DT tunes that was conceived from a live session, this time between Preston and me....Tom is still in S. Korea so we opted not to have him fly over.  Tom may not have been at the original session but you can bet this tune has his grubby fingerprints all over it!

Thanks in advance for any listens and thanks as well for all the good info and comments on our last tune Flee by the Water.

DT is the following prime suspects....
Tom McCaffrey:  dem vocals, da horns (yeah, you heard right, horns) and of course lots of strange &^%$ and mixing
Preston Richardson:  dem beats, doz beats and DA beats!
Tony Wood:  dem gueetars, slide and otherwise, da keys in the outro

We had a special guest on this song.  A friend of Preston's named Don LaMarche laid down some keys and that will be the B3 that you hear in the tune.  Thanks for your help Don, we appreciate it.

Hope you enjoy this DT ride......a fair warning.....it may not be what you might expect but just wait, like the weather a DT tune always changes.  Let us know and we'll see if we can't get this one tweaked into final form.  Thanks!

The guitars were the hero of this song, they create a great bed track. I needed to hear the vocals and horns more, I don't think I would've understood the song if the lyrics weren't printed for me to see. A bit more definition in the drums too please. WD.

Thanks rebel007, that is great feedback. We appreciate your time and your ears.
We have a video for the song as well if anyone is interested.

rebel007- your remarks are one of the reasons I love this forum...you were dead-on and I kinda needed a kick in the rump to make some of the needed adjustments (now loaded). To be honest Tony nudged me the morning we posted (I think it was night on his end) but I pushed him to post it so thanks for the honest and very good remarks....
without sounding needy....just wondering is this made a difference on your end?

Thanks again!

I listened to this yesterday but completely forgot to reply!

A little different than some of the previous tunes I've heard, but for me it still has that DT thing going on... And that's a good thing because I like the character that DT brings to the table!  It's different yet identifiable.

As with Rebel I thought the guitars were very well done.  And though more textural than up-front in the mix, I thought the horns added a nice touch.   But yeah, the vocals were getting a bit lost this time around, and I think the intelligibility might be more important than on the last tune.  But the vocal tone/sound is so there, as usual.

I agree with Wayne the vox and horns could do with coming up a tad, interesting UTube track the vox sounds a better mix.  Still nice stuff and a very enjoyable listen to my furry ears.

Always a pleasure to hear your work here gentlemen.

Thanks for sharing

As a diehard DT fan I go into my listens with the idea that I'll love it till you prove me wrong.  Kinda like "innocent till proven guilty".  Well, I have never been disappointed.  Your vocal chameleon knows how to do this stuff and has the backing of wonderful musicians.  I just love this tune!  It's the closest to blues that I can remember from you guys but I'm old and can't remember how I got here.    Keep 'em comin' boys!

Thanks for taking the time to listen, we appreciate it very much.

SteveC:  Thanks for the feedback and kind words, we appreciate you coming back to let us know how you felt about it.  The vocals were debated a lot on this one (which is unusual for us) so it is good to have some critique on that.  We are a bit worn on the tune and knowing the words like we do, it is hard to be objective on how clear they are.  Tom had a whole nuther set of vox that we thought was too Mel Torme.  We overrode Tom on using them (something we rarely do) and now I have to wonder if that was a mistake.

Wookiee:  Ah, good ears.  The Youtube track is a different mix.  Thanks for the critique and the kind words.

Warren:  Yeah, blues is definitely not something we have tilted towards.  This is a progression that I've had in my bag for a few years but never brought it out.  Preston and I laid down about 5 different ideas that day and Tom latched on to this one with some quick/rough vox and we knew then we were headed down this road.  Thanks for checking it out and for the kind words and feedback.

Hello Tony ,
I certainly like the musical end of things w this song... meaning the band / accompianment ….that sounds great
as a non singer myself …i can't offer much ...about the only thing I can think of is the vocals need to come up ...
this tune was a real good listen for sure
