If you know what it isn't then it can be easier to find what it is. Sometimes it's like the layers of an onion. If someone is trying really hard to convince you it probably isn't so. A whole lot of fact and a little lie isn't truth. A present state only confirms a present state. A past state isn't whatever someone thinks it was unless they happen to be right. A future state is a guess, educated or otherwise. If you don't know what it is or how to find it, then you're at a terrible disadvantage.
The feeling that you may have found it can be misleading, since it isn't really about how you feel. Logic can be flawed leading to a false premise. Comfortable opinion is a terrible substitute. If it's autonomous of our thinking, then it doesn't need to hold to our thoughts.
