I personally hate Android...and I am just not into tablets, myself...I have no use for anything above 96 K...and that is just my opinions, so please take no offense. I do appreciate the input. I am curious why you would use the VS 100 which is made by Roland with Cubase as opposed to X2, though? Just soaking up knowledge here and picking peoples brains as much as I can before I go buy...I have in past been impulsive, which has made me buy things without educating myself enough to figure out I did NOT NEED what I bought...

...and my apologies! Maybe I brought this to the wrong forum..I spend so much time here that I didn't even know there was a whole forum for the VS 100...LOL I'll be watching here and now scouring the other forum!

MCU is a nice controller, especially with an XT or two to up the channel count.  Very nice for fader and transport controls.  Programmable hot key buttons nice also and some other nice features.

However, it's a bit long in the tooth at this point, yet still very pricey, particularly with XTs.  I have and MCU and three XTs and will continue to use them on my main machine (gotten very comfortable with real faders, m/s buttons, scroll wheel, etc.).  Also, the plugin implementation is decent, but not programmable (AFAIK) and therefore I find myself just mousing plugin controls most of the time instead of trying to find the control I'm looking for on the scribble strip!

As I posted in another thread, I just ordered a new machine and Planar Helium touchscreen; the 27" touchscreen is much less than the MCU, never mind adding and XT or three.  I'll report back once everything is in place.

I use an tascam FW1884 i use as a controller and interface, and also have a mackie blackbird which I use for mobile recording and as a preamp.  Once the FW1884 breaks or I am no longer able to get drivers for future versions of windows, I am planning to go to touch screen monitor as a controller and replace the interface if needed. Right now the touch screens are $400 - $600 range, hopefully in the future, they will come down a bit in price, however a controllers, non moptorized are about $500, and the nicer ones are $1000 + . So even now the proce of a controller = the price of a touch screen and interface.  The best part is the touch screen should not ever become obsolete. And as the price comes down, may make sense to have multiple touch screens as a control surface. just my 2 cents...

Heck, I may even upgrade sooner, than later, just cuz it would be easy to do!

Way too many people think in terms of replacing video monitors.

Touch screens, mice, laptop touch-pads, styli, faders, buttons, knobs....   are input devices.

They all have unique properties that are difficult to replicate.

No doubt the price of single touch screens will drop as well.  Many uses of these for audio.

A quick response single-touch is a great controller.

I've only had my VS-100 for a month now, but I love it.  I feed in the mains and the AUX from an analog mixer as 3/4 5/6 and get six input tracks.  The control surface is pretty nice and integrates well with X2.  The simple compressor and reverb work nice stand-alone when I'm not recording.

Just being able to record to the memory card (memory card does not work when the USB cable is plugged in) without having to set up the whole DAW has been real handy a couple of times.

Glen I was kinda liking the stand alone part...I could just kick it in any room in the house and start creations from there before going into my man cave and pulling everything out...

I use an MCU & XT. They work well enough but there are issues. Mainly no control over the prochannel. Correction..... you can only control the first module in the prochannel from it. Very annoying.

I guess if you've never had the 'old' functionality you might not miss it but I did and I do. One thing you might like to do is buy the best value piece of kit there is (IMHO) the BCF2000. That'll do 95% of what the MCU will at 10% of the price.

If you like it then "Upgrade" to the real thing and you can either sell the BCF or better still set it up as an ACT controller, which is what I did.
